No to this...Gawdy. F/P in the bedroom can help you into a good nights rest. The soft glow, the cackle and gentle heat all make for a good rip van winkle

I'm not sure it's a fireplace. A 'fire feature' possibly.

Well since you asked... that is NOT a fireplace. And since you brought it up I wouldn't live in a nanny state. I was taken home from the hospital in a home heated with wood when I was born and I plan to be putting logs on the fire in my home on my dying day.

I have seen some very unusual fireplaces but this one is the most unusual. For my taste, I like a fireplace for the ambiance but not sure this has enough flame interaction to give much ambiance. But for someone wanting out of the ordinary this is it.

Not especially. I prefer to have wall space in my bedroom for other furniture. And I live where we virtually never light a fireplace, although I have a very pretty one in my great room.

Now with the strong lines on the fireplace/feature, it looks more modern, while contemporary favors more curves, though the house is Santa Barbara Contemporary, from your description, if I follow you correctly Mike Rock.

I had no idea about the change in California. That's a shame, I love wood burning fireplaces. This seems small. It's trendy & if it's actually a heat source I'm sure the style will catch on.

Interesting. but, it seems very niche/taste specific so it wouldn't be something I'd be adding if I wanted to sell a place quickly.
Also, isn't it warm in Santa Barbara? Do most homes have fireplaces (and of course, I guess that's not a real fireplace). It's rare to have fireplaces in bedrooms here...except for homes from the 1700's and a some form 1800's (some of those have 1 in every room as it was the only way back then to heat the place).

Based on all the responses, Mike Rock, there is a real split between two poles and very little between them. If the AR realtor community is like the population out where you live, then this feature will alienate half your buyers! For that alone, I would be very cautious about using it.
What about a quietly shimmering water feature? I don't have one to suggest but there are those behind glass that have bubbles going up or other pattern types of things. Good luck!

Quite the opposite here where many rural homes sole heat is a wood stove or wood furnace even. Pellet stoves are making a huge increase as well. Most homes do not have natural gas, propane is more expensive so not used as much as wood.
