I think it just deletes them from your home page history. Go back and look at the posts you think you affected, the comments should still be there. You'd have to delete a comment specifically on that post to rid the post of it; that's my understanding of how it works. Keeping your history is a great reference though, I'd recommend not deleting it.

I think they stay on the post. They just get removed off your home page.

It's perfectly ok to delete the notices on comments on your "Home" page. We delete the notices after we've read the comments.

If you delete from the "Notifications" windows, that is fine.  If you delete from the actual blog or question, then they are gone forever.

If you delete from you home page that's fine (it leaves it on the post).

No that just deletes them from your home page, not the post itself. - you would have to delete individually on each post. No worries.

Depends on where you deleted them from, your notifications area/home page, is ok to delete from.

Any other place, like the actual post or question, will delete them forever.

I don't think it deletes them from the blog post..... I've done that in the past....

Where did you delete the comments from?  Your blog?  The notifications area?  The Q&A section?  Somewhere else?

I always left them on my home page until I reciprocated a comment, then deleted.

Notification does not affect the actual comments.

if you simply deleted it off your home page, no.  you're good.

I am not sure for now, but it used to be if you  deleted an answer the commenter lost their points.

It is okay to clean up your home page. If you delete a comment on a question or blog post it is gone.

I am still not sure what you wanted to do or why but I am glad you are happy with the results. 

Yes & not a smart move. I would only delete them if they say something obscene or make you mad with an opposing view.

My home just give you a summary so you can quickly see your comments & others comment in a stream.

If I'm understanding your concern, it appears you haven't done anything wrong.
