Hi Jody,  You need to be careful if you are backlinking. It could be consider spamming a post for your personal gain.   Personally, I don't mind if it is relevant to the article.  I'm all about sharing.  A reciprocal back link to the blog post on your site would also be appreciated.

I am not clear on what your intention is here.  Intuitively, my response is ... yes I mind. 

Use the re-blog feature - that won't offend anyone - and you can add whatever link you want to in your intro commentary on the re-blog.  Posting your link in others' comment section is not well-received.

I would not like to see that done. Either write out your info in the comment or write your own blog post with it and possibly reference the original one, as Chris Ann Cleland mentioned.

Backlinking is considered, by most, rude.  

If you are truly inspired to add more, link to the post the inspired you in your own post.  That kind of link is great if it is a public post.

I do mind, because a site/resource that you may find relevant or helpful, I may disagree with, and regardless, my page is now leading there and associated with in the eyes of google.

I appreciate the good intentions, but I think a better route would be to message the writer and share the link in an email, leave it to the author whether or not they'd like to include it.

I delete backlinks even from my friends because I can't control other sites, when they die, change url, etc, making backlinks not only worthless, but harmful to my SEO efforts.

I seem to remember it was a no no according to ActiveRain. Or discouraged. I have let some stay, a few... I have deleted some too.

I think that's what the back links are for!  Go for it.

You run the risk of having your comment deleted based on where the link links to.

I'm not sure I understand what you are trying to accomplish by doing this. My gut reaction is to say no thank you!

If the backlink is in your name (like mine) then it shouldn't be a problem.  If your comment is "Nice blog.  Jody @www.yourwebsite.com" that wouldn't be appropriate.
