Remember it's not personal and keep the overall needs of the client in mind.  It's a temporary thing and they only have as much power over my mental state as I allow them to have.  And maybe it helps to be an engineer :)  Bill

I nip that in the bud right up front.... I don't deal with that type of agent.... if I feel it's going sideways after the transaction begins, I'll deal directly with the buyer....

What is your definition of difficult?  I like Debe Maxwell 's comment.  It takes all types and you need to be prepared to deal with them accordingly.  Keeping control of the negotition, not letting it get out of control is something I strive to do.

Find their weakness...the one that makes them break down, and get nice.

There's one agent I ask about the family pets. That agent turns all sweetness and nice. I even ask to have pet photos sent to me.

You know what, I've had a couple of those and I simply asked them a question that made them feel important, like I was desiring their expertise in something. Even though I may not have needed their help or their opinion, when you treat them like they aren't scary beasts, they lighten up and "out of the blue" become helpful!  Reverse psychology......Yeah, I studied psych in college.

Get their broker involved and request another agent be assigned.  Been there, done that.  Seller almost didn't pay him his commission (out here seller can refuse to pay either side at any point during the escrow process).

I find the most difficult agents are ones that don't have many transactions under their belt. They don't know enough about what it takes for everyone involved to get the deal closed. They don't know what some terms mean or why certain things might be required.

If they have no respect for me; I ignore them and get my job done with the rest of the folks involved.
