If they are online and connecting with you - and you are available, why not? Have your scripts ready for calling so late, though..

When did the lead come in? If it came in late in the evening, then I would respond when I received it.

If you think calling might be inappropriate then email or text and ask permission to call.

Generally, I'll call someone back up until 8:00 PM, but I will text someone up until 9:00 PM.  Also, I always make a point to look at the time that the inquiry came in.  If the inquiry came in at 8:30 and I see it at 8:35, I'll go ahead and call.  One other tool that I use that is useful for calling clients back late at night is the free Slydial app which allows you to call a number and get sent directly to voice mail.

I would think you should cease your calls sometime between 8:00 and 9:00PM. If you have an inclination of a lead's lifestyle there is room for a judgment call. I personally would not have a problem with a call at 8:30 or 9:00 during the week. I might not answer it every time, but for me that is not a problem. Obviously some older leads are less likely to appreciate that. And 9:00PM is running a risk if you have anyone that works at an early hour. Even if the average person goes to be at let's say 11:00PM, how many go to bed at 8:00 or 9:00? A good number that you might not want to annoy.

I don't make phone calls and don't take phone calls at pm (unless it's a family emergency). I grew up in NYC and lived many years there and most everyone followed a rule that you didn't call before 9am or after 7:30pm. Why not text those people and tell them you'll be back to them in the morning.

I was a residential broker in NYC for 5+ years with Halstead and knew quite a few rental agents around town... never heard of one showing property after 10pm. Most cut it off by 8pm.

If is an email, I answer as soon as I can. I received a text and email with an offer today around 10:30pm. I confirmed both immediately.

I'm not as prompt with very early emails/texts. 4-5 am is not easy. But if I need to, I adjust to that time as well.

Here we do not call at or after 9 p.m., even with snowbirds who live in other states with a time difference Adam Feinberg.  And this call would not be to an existing client, but a new lead, so I'm thinking 9 p.m. would be too late, though as you wrote, NYC might be different.
