Hi Fred.

You didn't mention if you are on Windows or Mac. There is two very clear choices for the types of simple edits that you want to do. (Trimming your videos).

For windows, you would want to use the free Windows movie maker app
download page

For Mac, you would want to use iMovie (info page)
i
t should be already included with a Mac
(but in worse case, it only costs $14.99 should you need to buy)

Hi Fred - I spent the time taking Craig Daniels video course online (contact him for the details) and learned Sony Vegas, as well as how to properly use my camera, and I'm so glad I did. But there are easier editors out there like the windows one that's free or iMovie.

Windows movie maker is an interesting one.  Tried it for a little bit before I just let YouTube do the editing.

Windows live movie maker, very easy to use

To edit and modify a video I use Pinnacle studio - well worth the price, but a small learning curve if you want to indepth video's

I use the free windows software but it is not as easy as it might seem.  It takes a longer time  especially if you add music.

I've fooled around with iMovie, which is part of the Mac's bundled software package.  If I can figure it out, anyone can.

iMovie is my preference. Keeping a video short and packed full of good content is a challenge. I almost never go over a minute and a half. Knowing where to cut is the difficult part.

I don't know if the Windows Media freeware is sophisticated enough. Last I checked you should be able to do it easily but I've never done it. I've never wanted to be a Steven Spielberg.

I don't do my own editing. I hire work like this off Upwork which you to be elance. They do a lot more than trimming, they also adjust lighting and sound as well as adding video bumpers. The also take the video from an mov file to an mp4.

If you have a Mac, there is software already on the computer.  I guess you can get pretty fancy with editing.  I sometimes outsource it for very little fees.
