I had a buyer a month or so ago that said as soon as she closed she was tearing all landscape out. So gardens don't appeal to every buyer.

For those you love a beautiful yard and like to garden, yes. Or be willing to pay someone to take care of it. Every now and then I get a buyer who wants minimal maintenance. And the cost of irrigation!

Much like a cluttered home a beautiful garden may make the yard look small and full, and for many it will look like a full time project that they are inheriting.

As much as I prefer a garden over a lawn, if I were selling, I would leave the yard as a bright green canvas of lawn, ready for them to design their own garden of Eden.

Yes & no. I laugh at the 'gardens' in the city which means a nice 3x3 patch of grass with some bushes in Chicago.

You can tell people who don't have a green thumb.

Landscaping enhances a home.  As to your question, it depends on a lot of other factors.   Nice garden.

Especially if there are also veggies growing. More folks are going the route to dooryard gardens, even if in sunboxes.

Curb appeal is important... but I personally don't want any complicated gardens, as I don't garden and hate it and don't want to worry about upkeep. And I've had many clients who don't want the hassle of maintaining gardens.

It can work both ways...if the buyer has a brown thumb, they will just move on. If it is a buyer who enjoys gardening, it can help sell the house, especially if the gardens are tastefully done and well maintained.

Not so much here.  We sell second homes and people want low maintenance even in the yard.  Left natural on the stree side and easy cut lawn on the waterside is the best selling for our local landscaping.

I think it can work for you or against you. Certain buyers will eliminate a home because the yard/garden requires too much maintenance whereas others relish the opportunity to care for an established garden.

That's beautiful, Jack. I think landscaping can go a long way in selling a house as long as it isn't overdone. I've had buyers reject a great house, because they thought the landscaping would be too much to take care of.

That is not really a garden, it is a close up of a flower. If the home looks like it needs to much care it could hurt a sale.  Like this one...

It depends on the buyer.  Some don't want to do any gardening, lawn mowing, snow shovelling etc.  They may choose to purchase a condo or other property type.
