When we first moved to Santa Barbara, we tried it based on our interests.  We encountered several instances of "weird", which rapidly quelled our desires to pursue further...Each area is distinctly different, and you may not have a similar experience that we did.  I would love to hear your impression if you decide to try it.  A

Yes I have and actually attend other meetups and make comments to interact. I just started about 3 months ago but really feel that business will grow from this.

I haven't used this at all. I live in a very rural area, and it's so easy to meet people. 

No, I was not aware of it.

I checked it out about 7 years ago and the only people that were meeting up was in Chicago which is 90 miles away.

Someone suggested this a few years ago, and at the time it did not offer any good opportunities for our area.

Perhaps it is a good time to take a second look.

I looked into it.  I did not see anything that interested me ... old farts clubs. I may be an old fart myself ... I just am not interested in meeting up with more old farts.

Heard about Meet.up at recent Toastmaster conference.  Several clubs in Ohio are using Meet.up effectively to recruit younger generation.  Not sure of fee.

I use it, but for social and hiking groups.  I've organically gotten into real estate conversations with people, but no solid leads.  Of course, I'm out there more for the exercise than the lead gen, but if it happens it happens.  Best to be natural about it and not "that guy (or gal)" who is always pushing their product.

I run an incredibly successful meetup.com group, but it's not for business.  FROM that group I've gotten business, but what I noticed is the groups focused on business aren't as successful.

Our group is devoted to fun, and meeting new people, and just like in the real world, those relationships naturally lead to more business.

There are many local meet-up groups for just about any interest.  I haven't gotten involved in any of them.    I think it could be a very worthwhile networking opportunity for you.
