I've been doing these for seven years, and they have evolved greatly during that time.
Initially, my focus was on accuracy and statistical analysis.
Now, it's on driving traffic to my site (should have been my initial goal, right?).
Here's a link to today's post. It is a neighborhood report for a golf course community in Tallahassee. It contains three graphs and a table of all home sales and my current analysis.
But look below, it is how I promote this post on Facebook that really drives the traffic. By the end of today, I will have had this post seen by more than 1,000 on my site and several thousand more on Facebook.

Yes I do. You have to think up a style first on how you want to present those numbers. There are many good people to follow here that are awesome at it.
Joe Manausa, Michelle Gibson,
Gabe Sanders is nice also.

I do write them and have consistently for a number of years. I provide the statistics but also try to explain what it all means and the trends I am seeing. And of course when I talk with buyers and sellers I break it down even further

Melissa - I do write market reports, and it is constantly evolving. I try and give the numbers and explain what they mean.

When we did write market reports, we put our spin on the report to predict the trends.

Yes, I write market reports. I present numbers along with a narrative that is aimed to get people to contact me.

We have tried a bunch of market report formats and still try to shake it up every month or so.
We provide numbers but then include a "What does this mean to you?" approach. Buyers don't need our help to ge the numbers - they need our help to understand them.

Numbers and context for both sellers and buyers. There's not a lot of shift month to month in the context since the macro factors move slower.

If the data needs to be explained then explain. I believe that's part of giving something of value to the consumers reading the report. It also helps to set you apart, because you aren't just regurgitating numbers.

I explain the best I can in terms that I feel are easily understood. Let's face it ... there are many agents that don't understand their markets or what the data means. I add links to home value pages, absorption rates, etc.

Thanks for the comments everyone. I'm always curious to see how others feel. Most of the time, questions like these, are more of a poll than advice seeking. I already do market reports as well - though I admit the ones that I've done this week are the first that I've done in a while.
Here is one I wrote yesterday on my site: http://www.themarroteam.com/2016/06/30/may-2016-orange-park-housing-market-trends/
Here is one I wrote a few days ago here in the rain...

Melissa,
An approach worth considering is understanding the type of business you are running.
Those whose business is transformation focused, heart based business, would best benefit from reports like those presented by Joe Manausa As you will read in his copy, the reader becomes immersed in a way of life, a transformation from the life they may live today.
Ones business my be based on expertise, those skills and resources developed as the outcome of not dying early. Their business is based on the expertise the bring into the equation. For these a data driven report better aligns with what they bring to the table.
If one does not know if their business is transformation based or expertise based, then it a commodity, which will be price based.
Reality however can be observed right here on Active Rain. The fluffier and more generic the blog the more likely it will be featured.
The same will prove true with readers of market reports. The fluffier and generic, the greater the readership.
One could argue the greater readership is unlikely to include those within the 90 day window. These folks are digging for more information.
It is possibly effective to snag that 90 day person with a pop up window to get them to take action.
I am in the process of wring a market trends report that is expertise based. The purpose is 'validation' needed in conjunction with other marketing initiatives. Stay tuned.

Most charts provided I do not know what to make out of it.
45 homes on the market. Is that a lot or small? You need to explain with convincing data. One problem is median prices applying if there are a lot 20,000 sf homes sold or next month only < 1500 sf homes were sold.
In my book most are trashed away as they come in.

I post a lot of market reports, that generally get received well. Feel free to look them up. I talk about the area, the numbers and the change over the prior week. Spreadsheet formulas do all the "heavy lifting" for me.
