I know one thing. People are looking for you while you are looking for them

I wouldn't necessarily classify it as a sport - but, contacts are our life blood

Talk real estate wherever you go and recognize opportunities are everywhere. I remember being in the hospital after having my heart stint and talking with my cardiologist about buying rental property. He was very interested and ended up buying.

I agree, I talk to as many people that come in contact with every where I go.

I never thought of it that way , but you are right and I agree that getting involved with your community and things that you enjoy doing outside of real estate is a good way to meet people with common interests.

Anything that is face to face. At some point, we have to step away from the conputer.

Definitely a contact sport, but we do not refer ourselves out as a 'Team'. I take issue to that term used in RE. Contacting new people? Get out in public away from these horrible machines that are eating up our lives.

I believe real estate is a people sport ... and I make connections with people. I am not an advocate of making people a number in my business. Yes, I am different like that.

To agree real estate is a contacts sport one must also accept it's a numbers game. More and more and more is better.
Another approach could be that real estate is like the 'draft.' Those athletes who have created the greatest talent are the one valued highest.
Perhaps creating value is a better option for some who are in real estate.
Dialing for dollars or word of mouth, both are valid options. However, there are more options than these two.
How can we contact new people on a regular bases? Go where the people are and have a little honey with you.

I do lots with direct mail and Corefact, they have products to make the phone ring.

I'm not sure I would identify it as a sport but it's definitely better with contacts.
Find what works for you. Rinse. Repeat.

I have used this phrase for several years. We must pick up the phones and start calling people for business.

Prospecting daily. Direct mail, working the phone, attending networking events.

Let everyone you meet know what you do and find out what they do! Then follow-up on a regular basis!

Peter Mohylsky - no doubt about it.
And as a coaching member of Buffini & Company - the answer is fairly simple - calls, notes and pop-bys along with networking with businesses and client appreciation parties.
And simple again to add new people to database - ask for referrals.

That's a good way to put it and it is very true. We contact clients through the clients we contacted before.

Sometimes it feels like a "full-contact" sport! Yes, I agree it is all about making those connections, both actively and passively.

I tell people almost every day that I am a REALTOR and I have business cards with me.
