Downtown Chicago has over 40 major developements under way and that does not count lo-rise and mid-rise construction in many other parts of the city. There has even been some movement to deconvert some condominium buildings and rent them as apartments. Time will tell.

Charlotte is a major growth region so we've always had a lot of new construction--mostly single family homes and rental units. We are not a huge condo market.

California couldn't build too much housing if it tried right now. CAR, LAO, etc. all seem to agree that we're falling potentially 100k new units short a year here!

My area is pretty well built out already but we do see an occasional new condo here on the beach. No new rental units are being built that I know of but we could use a couple.

I am concerned with the over-building of apartments as the vacancy now is under 90% and hundred more usnits are underway.

Carlsbad has been pretty good about controlling the development, and preserving open space. Most of the residential building is single family detached homes. There are 2 developments with around 600 homes, and several more planned and in the approval process
The downtown San Diego area is going through another building boom! And there is plenty of demand right now

The people whom have no money invested will definitely say yes.
I would say it is a mix of both and in some areas way too many rentals.

Lake Forest growth rate was the 3rd highest in the state this past year with Irvine, right up there. It is a catch 22 in Socal. Population growth shows we are short on housing...

YES Inna Ivchenko due to the oil boom which has now gone to a temporary bust. Oil prices are on the rise and things are looking good but they really over built here especially apartments and motels.

I'd say so. From Thousand Oaks to Calabasas new projects are being green lighted without any concern for the surrounding home values, traffic issues, etc. Mostly apartment complexes because someone thinks there needs to be "affordable housing" in a ritzy area with a median sales price of over $1m.
Overdevelopment and political idiocy running rampant! Wouldn't surprise me if other stuff was running rampant too!

Big apartment complexes are going up like crazy all over. I've talked to several millenials about real estate and I think its due to the many millenials not ready or not wanting to purchase a home at this time.

Overdevelopment?
Too many in my place in Florida would like things to remain as they found them in 1968, They complain of EVERYTHING and label it 'overdevelopment.
Change is taking place at a rapid pace. More housing is needed. Curmudgeons have been successful in limiting the options available to builders, so Townhomes and condos for sale have proven to be the available option.

No. That's a primary reason I chose to live on the north sore of Kauai. This is one of the few areas on any of the islands that stopped almost all expansion decades ago.
