John Mosier I did something similar 4 years ago and do not regret making the change. If your plan is to sell your domains and online social media presence when you retire it is the smart move (IMHO). If for no other reason, I would speculate no agent in your area would want something with your name on it, especially when they would be trying to build their own online identity.

I am not a Facebook expert...just an informed user. ;-)

For the future I can see your thinking here, John. It might get more hits if it was area specific. I am sure there is a downside but just don't know what it is.

Personal branding could definitely limit your chances of future referrals, or selling your company/ business/name.

John,

I am a big fan of consistency in all your marketing, including your name.  So long as that name is available, I would do it.  My only caution is "All about Prescott" says "Information site for tourists or school reports" to me, not real estate.  I'd add in "real estate" to the FB name and maybe get a second URL with real estate at the end and have it redirect to your existing one (or vice versa).

i believe that using your personal name is best when you are targeting people who alaready know you, but if you are targeting strangers then location based names are better.

How much of your yearly business is from your SOI?

These are folks that know your name.

Why not do all three until you know you have weened your REFERRAL business from your personal identify to the new format. How many times have you received a call from a piece of marketing material that was slipped into a drawer years ago?

Be patient before putting the torch to what currently exists. BUT, if you are closing up shop, ramping down, pulling in the sidewalk, then downsizing may be the more  convenient approach. I would advise 'going out' with the afterburners on full burn.
