I have a counter height desk.  I love it!  I have a stool if I want to sit down, but I find that I stand more than I sit

I use a riser.  It has three different positions.  I got it at office max for like $25 ... have had it for at least 4 years now.

Sorry, I don't.  I'd recommend if you do though wear shoes with arch support and get one of those thick pads to stand on that cashiers tend to have.  It'll save your knees and joints a LOT of pain and discomfort down the road.

Good question Carol. I use a regular desk. I have seen higher work stations but I think it depends on what you like.

My chiro recommended a stand up desk over 10 years ago. What works for me, till this day, is to have one computer on a desk with my office chair.

I use that computer for things that involve a lot of sitting time...contracts, webinars, writing blogs, etc. And when I take a phone call, it is easier for me to sit at the desk and use that computer since my files are easily accessible. .

I use my backup laptop as a standup computer. I put it on the counter of our breakfast bar on the dinette side and try to take a break from the desktop every 30 minutes or so. Then I use the standup laptop to check email, run MLS searches, etc. As a bonus, it sits where the pass through to our kitchen is so I can look out the kitchen window as well.

That combo has worked well for me for many years...what you want to avoid is using the standup desk all the time. Alternate between the two every 30 or 60 minutes and you back will thank you.

I do not use these. I get up and walk around quite a bit to keep from getting cramps and a sore back.

Not a fan of the standing desk. I think its a fad like Balans Chairs, Yoga balls instead of chairs, split or tented keyboards at computers, bike pedals under the desk, and in-office "nap" tents.

So the very first time I saw this "stand up desk" was at my attorney's office, he and I are both in our fifties.  I walked in and asked him where his desk was, and he pointed toward a large lecturn and said, it's over there.  My response..."wha???"

"It's a standing desk, they're ergonomic and good for you," he tells me.

My response, "dude, have you ever worked a job, like say, bank teller where you don't get to sit down and have to stand all the time, or waiter, janitor or sales clerk at a department store?"

"No," he says.

"Yeah, well I have and know what its like to be on your feet all day long, and I'll tell you, that lecturn of yours will be there for the next year or two and you'll have your rear back at a regular desk soon enough."

We went to lunch recently, the regular desk was back. "What happened to the standing desk?" I asked.

"Yeah, started irritating my back and my feet."

For once I was silent...I think vindication speaks volumes!

I have a stand-up desk I made from a previous her top and two extra large saw horse pieces, it started a trend in my office and i really like it.  Been using it since January, I do have a bar stool to occasionally sit down.
