I think it's somehow human nature. I've seen little kids tell lies who are in a family raising them differently. Don't have an explanation for this.

I believe it's how we were taught as children and what the consequences were when we told the truth - yes, the truth!

Parents have a tendency today to believe whatever their children tell them - which is pretty clsoe minded and extremely dangeround IMO!

Interesting question. I don't think there is a "truth gene" but I do believe there is something innate that compels some people to lie.

So many reasons why and in my opinion, one of them is low self-esteem and trying to make themselves look or sound more important than they feel.

Perhaps it is just part of the moral decline that started a generation ago and will be continuing.

Our adopted daughter is a chronic liar.  She doesn't know how to tell the truth when it would benefit her better. 

I wish I knew the answer to that.  For some ... it is pathology.  They would not  know or speak the truth if it were biting them in the ass. 

I got the crap beat out of me if I was caught lying.  My Dad was a strict military disciplinarian.  I guess you could say "truth was beat into me" to the point where I learned honesty is the best policy. 

I think some lie to avoid ownership of the "fault" or "blame" when they need to own up to a mistake.

EVERYBODY LIES. If you don't know this you are lying.

What I have found is others take the first available 'social out' and this will and could be judged a lie by the one asking the question.

The SOLUTION to lies is to ask more and better questions, not judging believing you know what is taking place in the mind of another.

In the American society, 'No' is a negative and unfriendly word creating the need for the social lie or what we now accept as political correctness.

Agrre with you on this. I think people lie, becasue to tell the truth they feel might give their opponent the edge.

Much of this has to do with insecurity over a long period of time. I don't believe people are born this way, and suspect it has more to do with the environment that they are brought up in.

Do you remember the TV show "Dallas"? JR answered a similar question with: "Once you lose your integrity, the rest is easy".

Liars have to remember many stories.  Truth tellers only have to remember one thing.  I guess they figure they're smarter.  They don't realize it will bite them in the arse.

Well, most of politicians were born in times of ''truth tellers'' but they are not.....were they raised in some special ways? 

I think insecurity is a big part of it.   But this does remind me of the scorpion and the frog.

Some are pathalogical and beyond help. Others are covering up while others try to get ahead and like Hillary, will say anything to get elected. 

I don't know for sure, but once I know someone has lied to me, I simply cannot trust their word again. 

I don't understand lying, either. It's not in my nature.
