I got a wide angle lense that fits on my smartphone camera. It is surprizingly good. I hire a professional for all but my smallest  listings, but this is what I use to make those listing photos look near professional quality.

The wide angle lens is great for interior shots. I have a Canon that I love. You will have to find a camera that you feel comfortable using.

One can get a plastic fisheye lens for bath showing shower/pottie. 28 mm is barely adequte as smaller rooms all use wife angle like 18 mm.

what sort of budget are you trying to stay in.  I've had two really good ones for their purposes. One was $500 ish at the time I purchased, but I believe similar newer model is cheaper and then a FX full frame I bought last  year that was about $4000 after I got the lens I wanted.

As R&A stated. Consult with a a few pro photogs and they should be able to guide you in the right direction. Personally, hubby and I use Canon equipment and have so for many years.

Ron and Alexandra Seigel  have a good suggestion. I have a Sony that I like very well. It does a good job on videos, too

I agree with Ron and Alexandra, I bought a new camera with a wide angle lens and I really like it.

Don't go too wide.  Those will produce curvy fish eye quality photos.

I'm on the fence with wide angle lenses....I do use them but only for tight spaces like half baths and small bathrooms.  Sometimes I see MLS photos that distort the size of the room too much and it just feel like trickery to me on the viewer.    If you know how to use them right, they're nice.

The wide angle lens and moderately priced camera are only the start. It takes lots of training and patience to produce excellent real estate photos . Then there is the question of what editing software to invest in for a polished final product. I use a Nikon with a 12-24 lens.

No suggestions from me. Was taking photos for a new construction client on a regular basis. One day forgot my camera and used my iPad. Customer asked all photos going forward be on the iPad. Retired the camera!

I like to buy from B&H camera. I bought a Sigma wide angle for my Nikon Digital SLR.

You have received some excellent suggestions here including speaking with a professional and choosing one you are comfortable.  Your budget and skill level will also come into play.  

Hi Cathy-if you do not know any professionals got to a camera shop-not a big box store that sells them. You must determine what you "need" first. There are many different wide angle lens think zoom. 4X 10X 100X. If it is to shoot smaller interiors focus on that because those mls or brochure photos that are taken with great range lens bend the photos terribly and they become very distorted (hate seeing that!). THEN go to the big box with your info and shop price or make a great deal with the camera store guy if possible. Good luck! Just an FYI-I use Canon and Nikon equipment.

Our company requires we use a professional photographer. But for my personal photos, I use a Nikon and would also love to get a wide angle lens for it.

It depends on several factors. Is it going to be your everyday camera or just for real estate? Are you going to shoot video with it? Check to make sure if fits your hand. Check weight, controls, battery life, external flash, and mic, etc. You don't need a dsl. Know your price limit. There will be several that fit what you need. You can also check with some camera shops, because they have cameras that you can rent and test out before you buy. Many reviews are online at www.dpreview.com

This is a great forum but you also need to search the web for suggestions. 

Canon or Nikon are a "gold standard" with professionals, but Sony and Fuji are making a play for the list of top-ranking tools that pros use.

I photograph homes with the Canon 5D Mark III, most often with the Canon 16-35mm f2,8L wide-angle lens.

Get a copy of Stan Barron's e-book, "How to Photograph Houses" (you can download it free).  You might also want to check out the  kenrockwell.com website for some good reads, like his review of the Canon 5D Mark III. 

I need that too, but it is extremely expensive what I want and not priority now. What camera do you use?
