When I lived in NY City it was pre-war construction on the Upper East Side only for me. Here in Charlotte, our first home was a resale, but since 2001 we've built two new homes. I've a convert.

Exisiting homes tend to be easier, but we do sell several new homes each year, including 'To-Be-Builts'.

I think a lot would depend on the location.  If it were on waterfront, an existing home would be just fine.

I am a new home buyer and my last 3 homes have been new.

Good question Robert 'VEGAS BOB' Swetz, as we have had both, and both have advantages.  Some of the older styles are more classic and very different from new construction, especially in elevation, even if square footage matches up - they just seem to have more character.  For me, in the end, the 'key' is floorplan!  Do love up-dates in older homes, as the 'vintage look' (meaning everything is original) is not for me.  HA!   

Existing, unless I had unlimited funds. And I enjoy working with buyers purchasing existing homes

custom build, did it last time, will next time too.  Working on plans now

My next place will be either new or totally renvoated.

There some vintage homes with so much character in my area Bob, many are a 100 years old and stunning.

House is secondary...it is all about he land

I may try a new home with my next purchase.  If (and it's a big if) I can find one in a good location.

Previously enjoyed for me.  I'm not a fan of new builds.

I could go either way, VB. It would depend on the area, what's available, and what meets my needs. 

I don't really care as long as they can each be approved for a mortgage and I am their Mortgage Loan Originator !   LOL

What's best for the buyer.

Had a custom home built (East Coast), despite the hassle, it was well worth it. New home for the choice of design, layout and amenities.

I have bought brand new, prefer resale now.

I think it depends, but for me personally, I like the feel of a brand new home and knowing that I can customize it to my liking from the get go.

With that said, when I purchased my place 11 years ago I went with a pre-owned condo that needed new paint and flooring before move in because I loved the location and most of the interior features of the home. Over time I've added upgrades, but will eventually need to redo my kitchen and bathrooms. 
With all of the $ I have spent so far, I probably should have just bought new from the beginning. I do love my place, though!

Most buyers go for the feel of "new". In my opinion, maybe 2 or 3 years old is perfect: landscaping is done, kinks worked out; window treatments up. In other words, many benefits.

One that can afford the purchase.

I love old homes...really old homes with character and the old world charm and nice woodwork. 

Always prefer existing homes.

I always preferred a new home.... there's something very special about being the first one to live in a house....

For me it's about the home's style, quality and location not the age. New can mean no big repairs for awhile or it can me all the problems are yet to be discovered. Existing can mean beautifully restored and maintained or run down. Give me quality and that's what I'll buy!

Any home is a perfect listing for me. The only issues we can face: pricing and owners motivation. 

I prefer the "right home" and am agnostic about new versus existing.  You can always turn an existing home's guts into the stuff of new homes.

New

I've had the good fortune to have been able to own 2 brand new houses. While I like many of the features and benefits of owning new, I am "wowed" more by older homes that are distinctive, have impressive fews, and established landscaping. I would not be adverse to buying a resale.

We have purchased and lived in new and existing homes. If price and time are not concerns, new is very nice.

I highly reccomend doing both in this lifetime

Debbie preferred a new home when we bought last.  It really didn't matter to me as long as was in great shape and met our needs.

I LOVE new Homes, soon my search will start for land and a perfect home.

Bigger wins, followed by newer.

Either- I've seen good deals on both. Location and amount of land would interest me more than new or used.

New or ReSale as long as it is built well and not breaking down.

new home....but, not in a tract, but a custom build in a infill or on a bit of property. that way we can get what we want.
