I still don't understand why we buy one drop of foreign oil when our fellow Americans are getting laid off and our American oil is sitting in ships offshore.   I say make it American, buy it American.   If we have an oversupply, then sell the surplus only.

And to your question, I use (and abuse) my vehicle so function is more important than fuel mileage.   I need 4wd here in the Blue Ridge Mountains and do a lot of charity work, where I do hauling, so it's an SUV for me.

It's still important.  Price goes up and down.  Being environmentally responsible is the right thing to do, regardless of the price of fuel.  I'm glad electric cars are becoming more prevalent.   I would like to see more use of solar.

Never! The reality is that MPG cost money. On lower gas prices, we no longer sell items for quality of life and well-being but for profit. Money driven!

Must say MPG plays a part, but the use of regular versus premium fuel also plays a part.

Good morning Kevin. I pay little attention to MPG when I buy a vehicle, it is always an SUV, haven't owned a car for many years.

I still look at that, but mainly I'm shopping for a particular car. I'm a Subaru fan and will likely get another one. All I will be shopping for is the trim level I want.

When it comes to gasoline prices, I never expect them to stay down.

Gas jumped almost a buck over a two day period out here.  MPG has some consideration, but I buy for function first.  With that said, my SUV I'm going to get gets better mileage than my existing car (by about 4mpg) and is an "ecoboost" engine.  It did factor somewhat into my choices.  Alternate fuel vehicles are too pricey.

I don't look at MPG since miles are not used for distance calculation and gas is not sold by volume in gallons at gas stations.  There would also be the issue of which gallon is being referenced - US vs imperial.

If I were looking to buy a new car it would definitely be a consideration. Woth lower prices it seems we are seeing many more big vehicles that are pretty thirsty. But also more hybrids and electric cars

No, it's still a factor. Oil is a finite resourse and the oil lobby seems to have been successful at blocking any new, less expensive fuels.

The EPA ratings for MPG have always been considered inaccurate anyway, but people need to remember that fuel prices will increase with demand and the economy.
