I don't think you can do a 'from scratch' answer more than once.

Fred Griffin no notifications go out for sub-comments.
And why not earn 6 AR points when you still do the same thing - respond to comment via comment? You can tag another member, too.
Double advnatage in a separate comment.
Just my two cents.

I still see many people tagging within the sub comments. It doesn't work. No notification is sent to the person you tagged. The only way people see comments within comments is if they return to see if you replied.
For this reason, I usually reply to comments by tagging people in a new comment.

Good information! Instead of the assumption of point hounds, these blogger are working around a flaw inherent in the AR system. Option two has a problem due to the 'most upvotes' default that could present without regard to proper sequence.
Using the 'Like' may be alternative notification also.

The sub comment does not notify the person you are commenting back to. Roger D. Mucci and Sharon Tara wrote about this here on Q & A. So, I use the second version. A

Depends. If I responds directly after your comment I will write a separate comment. If there are several comments after yours I will use the drop-down comment-to-comment so that it seems more personal. Just my $.02 Fred Griffin

People are not notified in the sub-comments ...not sure what the intention of that was ... or it if was thought all the way through.

The @sign is not working great on subcomments.
I guess I should rethink that right? Didn't even consider it until now.

I prefer to respond by commenting to the comment and tagging them in that subcomment. It flows better.
If I'm thanking 3+ people at once, I'll make a new comment. I don't worry about points and I doubt we can get them on our own blogs.

I typically use the second but there are exceptions, especially if there is a mini-thread in the sub-comment

Your selection is a personal preference. If you really want the other member to receive your message, go to one of their blogs and leave a comment.

Fred - For now, I use the old school method because nobody gets notified when you use the drop down comment.

The blogger doesn't get alerts if you use the sub comment, so I don't use that feature.

I prefer the drop down thing, but suspect that the tagging thing does not work here.

I do sub-comments mostly, and comments if I have a new/additional info to a post.

Well, I've done both, though would like the person to see my comment, so I'm going to strictly use the Comment as opposed to the Sub-Comment now that I know it makes a difference! It's a learning curve for me, and I totally appreciate all of the good input that you got, Fred Griffin!

Hi, Liz and Bill Spear
I don't need the points, either. My main concern is that when I reply back, that person is made aware of it. Hopefully the AR Devs can correct the notification for the @sign.

Fred, My preference is to do a one block comment response as needed throughout the day. I'm not much for tagging. Anyone who has followed us by this point will know about 99% of the time I'll come back to the post and acknowledge/respond to comments. If I missed any, it's purely oversight.
And I have zero care about the points one way or the other, I just do what works for me each day. Bill
