Not a problem. Since this is a friend I would take the event as an opportunity to assist in the presentation training. I would even be so kind as to 'squeeze' to ensure skills in handling objection are used and ability to create a win/win to those the plan is presented to.
Now, I would suggest ambushing rarely works. The network of friends and associates created through a lifetime of caring is placed in jeopardy when friends are dismissed at the urging of a trainer. Much like newbie agents are encouraged to do regarding ambushing their family, friends and associates in order to get referrals.
It's amusing to see how many of us OBJECT or take offense, but direct others to go and do likewise.
Has MLM happened to me? Yes.
Offended? Of course not. I am bigger than that.

I think we all have. Apparently they don't realize, you could have just met for lunch, and then you would have sent business down the line in the future-but now you might send elsewhere. It's good to connect with people just because and not be pushing business.

This kind of pitch is to be expected from some. Just screen the reasons for meetings.

John,
I try to be nice no matter what but it is disappointing when people feign friendship but want your money.

yes I have.
Best to ask ahead of time what the meeting is about.

I've had one or two of those. Disappointing to say the least. I helped a friend out and bought product that was all right. But regretted the final cost and some of the addons "oh I'll sign you up as a seller too" then 20 minutes later you find out that costs money.

I've had some old friends try this. They are no longer my friends.

A local bank held an 'appreciation' event and THEY were sticking hands in pockets for donations for something!
I am the absolute WORST to invite to such things. I will just not go. Period.

Yes, that had happened to me as well once. It wasn't a recruitment event but turned out to be a sales event for candles. Not happy and needless to say, I didn't buy.

I think from time to time, we've all had this happen to us. Not a good feeling.

Good morning John. We have all had it happen, no pleasant as it is often not done in a straight way, but rather as a pretense of something totally different.
