If I want my posts to rank well on google/be evergreen, generally a min of 1000 words, but often 1500-2000 words.  I have a few that are over 3,000 words.

I do one of these per month.

for other posts that I don't care about and/or ones that are meant for backlinking, they are often shorter and may only be 200-500 words, pending on subject.

Yes, the length does matter!  but, it depends on your objective: 1. ranking well and providing meaningful info for target customer vs 2. easy reading/trying to generate comments on here.

And, no you should not write lots of words for the sake of filling up the space.  It has to be a topic that works to be an in depth article.

I've heard short is better, I've heard long is better. I'm totally confused and I no longer care. I write as much or as little I think a topic needs and just try to do a great job on the writing.

The best blog length is long enough to communicate something of value. That can be less than 100 words for a simple message. Usually mine are 200-500 words.

I usually just say what I have to say then stop.  I know there is a 50 word minimum for points here.  Google likes posts with 500+ words.

Short enough to keep peoples interest, yet long enough to share the message.

Generally works out to between 100-500 words.

Mine vary and can be as few as 200 to over 500 words.  Occasionally I have had some in the 50 word range along with some "speechless" posts.

There is lots of talk about mega posts but I haven't done any yet.

If you are looking for points -- I believe there is a minimum of 50 words and a limit of ten per week.   Of course -- a post with less than those words can still "collect" points by getting comments(up to a daily maximum too).

It depends on who your intended audience is and the purpose intended.

Those readers who have no intent to learn anything or to be challenged by anything new will restrict their reading to snippets. Superficial, quick reads are needed to keep these samplers coming back and to create within them a desire to know more.

Now there are those who are in pursuit of substance, and may turn to big G for the meaning of life. These are folks looking for ANSWERS, not snippets. Being recognized as authoritative, in the eyes of big G means you need to know the choreography of their dance.....which means a more verbose post.

Does it matter? Depends on the outcome wanted. Some twitter folks have huge followings and do influence the national dialog.

What do I do? Use every word needed to convey my intent.
