It depends.
Susan Emo told me to keep my eyes on my own paper.
Congratulations on the new listing.
Wow! What a cool photo -- I bet you enjoyed your trip.
Have a sunny day.
That's a great recipe.

I suspect mostly it is for the points but there are other possibilities.
I have commented on a few blogs with some totally generic comment because their blog was so poorly written and I couldn't think of anything good to say. However, I still still wanted to encourage them to keep trying because people ARE reading. I've even gone so far as to offer FREE editing services to help them.
There are, however, those trolls that slap their promotional taglines anywhere and everywhere. There are also courses that teach people to comment on other people's blogs to get exposure for themselves. The part of the course they are forgetting is to add value to the conversation.
I do like Annette Lawrence , Palm Harbor, FL 727-420-4041 positive spin. There is always more than one side to a coin.
Have a great day selling furniture, Roger D. Mucci !

Roger,
Glad you asked this. It is so obvious when someone has not read the post by the comment that makes no sense. My fave is the comment specialist who basically copies your contact information and says, for all your real estate needs call Roger...You know the one. LOL A

Yes Roger, I know exactly when someone doesn't read the blog post. It's usually when I write about a community and they wish us luck with the sale. What sale, I was only spotlighting the neighborhood!

I think it's odd when people randomly comment and it's obvious they didn't read any part of the blog. The ones who comment two and three times on every blog, saying stuff that doesn't make sense....WTF??
It must be the 25, 50 or 75 points.

Some people copy and paste the exact same comment on every post. I assume they think it's a quick way to accumulate points.

I don't, but I know there are many here that do that, and I would guess it would be for the 25 pts.

Roger - here's hoping you have a great month in real estate!!
Back to reality - I suspect it's for the points - but every comment received does earn the poster 6 points? I think.

I want to write the answer here Roger D. Mucci because I get 15 points - and you got 10 points....(I did better than you.....lol!)
And yes, good luck with that sofa! (You see I did not say 'listing'!)

I have seen many on AR that have admitted to not reading the posts. Not sure why they would do that, but ...

Yep, the robo commenters are all about their 25 points. Great listing Roger, I sure did learn a lot about real estate from this question today, thanks for sharing! For all of your real estate needs call Roger Mucci!

Those types of commenters are what I call "gangsta". They drive-by and spray their pablum all over the board, and don't care who they hit.

Roger D. Mucci Great question. Have a nice day. Do I get my points now? LOL
It is obviously for the points. It takes time to read twenty posts every day.

The process that has been the incentive for many of my comments is simply to reciprocate with comments after the member has commented on my blogs. I often comment on market reports or listings that are not of interest to me.
Sometimes, a comments is just a small way to pay it forward.

If the answer didn't go with the post, I would say yes. It was for the points.
6,698,225
I am sure you see this for a variety of reasons Roger, some for points, some just to stop by and say howdy to as many friends as possible, and others just dont have the ability to think of anything to say but want to say something.
1,683,918
I have noticed that too. Some of my titles are taken the wrong way and they comment with something entirely different. That's when I noticed that they didn't even read the blog.
1,651,160
Do you mean copy/paste comments? They become quite popular here. My guess: time saving and points.
3,763,935
I think you've got to read the post, or at least 9/10th of it. It's funny to get comments where it's clear the reader didn't read much or any of it.
4,366,923

I see this sometimes on mine ....I like it when they call me Bob or some other name not even close ....or ...I'll post a recent sell and I'll get comments ...like ...Congrats on the new listing ....LOL
Nice question Roger D. Mucci
3,416,372
Happens quite often, if i am not reading, i am not leaving a comment. I actually like reading blogs becuase they teach or entertain each day.
3,988,138
Of course it was about the points. Lazy and why bother. It make the commentor look bad.
921,504
Why do you look at it THAT way.
Could it not be their way of YOU getting a few points for your effort.
To let you know someone IS reading.
And they may be saying, 'Up your game and there are likes and reblogs in your future."
Why go negative?

Roger - If someone makes a comment that has nothing to do with the post, then they are obviously doing it for the points.
I read every post I comment on, and then some.
