Roger, That's a nice listing and I hope it sells quickly!!  (how many points for a comment on a Q&A??).  Like I care about points :)

I suspect mostly it is for the points but there are other possibilities.  

I have commented on a few blogs with some totally generic comment because their blog was so poorly written and I couldn't think of anything good to say.   However, I still still wanted to encourage them to keep trying because people ARE reading.  I've even gone so far as to offer FREE editing services to help them.  

There are, however, those trolls that slap their promotional taglines anywhere and everywhere.  There are also courses that teach people to comment on other people's blogs to get exposure for themselves.  The part of the course they are forgetting is to add value to the conversation.

Glad you asked this.  It is so obvious when someone has not read the post by the comment that makes no sense.  My fave is the comment specialist who basically copies your contact information and says, for all your real estate needs call Roger...You know the one.  LOL A

Yes Roger, I know exactly when someone doesn't read the blog post.  It's usually when I write about a community and they wish us luck with the sale. What sale, I was only spotlighting the neighborhood!

I think it's odd when people randomly comment and it's obvious they didn't read any part of the blog.  The ones who comment two and three times on every blog, saying stuff that doesn't make sense....WTF??

It must be the 25, 50 or 75 points.

Some people copy and paste the exact same comment on every post. I assume they think it's a quick way to accumulate points.

The other day I saw this very well dressed man walking directly towards me and, oh what was the question?

I don't, but I know there are many here that do that, and I would guess it would be for the 25 pts.

I don't think I've ever done that.... if my comment doesn't make sense, I probably didn't understand the point of the post!!!

Those types of commenters are what I call "gangsta". They drive-by and spray their pablum all over the board, and don't care who they hit.

It is obviously for the points. It takes time to read twenty posts every day.

The process that has been the incentive for many of my comments is simply to reciprocate with comments after the member has commented on my blogs. I often comment on market reports or listings that are not of interest to me.

Sometimes, a comments is just a small way to pay it forward.

I see several of these, although the biggest offenders have gone away.  Yes, they did it just for the points.

Don't you get it at home too?  People have the tendency to rattle w/o listening or read....

If the answer didn't go with the post, I would say yes.  It was for the points.

I am sure you see this for a variety of reasons Roger, some for points, some just to stop by and say howdy to as many friends as possible, and others just dont have the ability to think of anything to say but want to say something.

I have noticed that too.  Some of my titles are taken the wrong way and they comment with something entirely different.  That's when I noticed that they didn't even read the blog.

Do you mean copy/paste comments? They become quite popular here. My guess: time saving and points. 

I think you've got to read the post, or at least 9/10th of it.  It's funny to get comments where it's clear the reader didn't read much or any of it.

Happens quite often, if i am not reading, i am not leaving a comment. I actually like reading blogs becuase they teach or entertain each day. 

Of course it was about the points. Lazy and why bother. It make the commentor look bad.

 Why do you look at it THAT way.

Could it not be their way of YOU getting a few points for your effort.

To let you know someone IS reading.

And they may be saying, 'Up your game and there are likes and reblogs in your future."

Why go negative?

Roger - If someone makes a comment that has nothing to do with the post, then they are obviously doing it for the points.

I read every post I comment on, and then some.
