Larry, it sounds like you got yourself some cheap **s Christmas lights.

During the summers our attics here in AZ can easily get up 160° or more. In almost 30 years of living here, I've never had any problems with our Christmas lights not working because they got too hot.

Heat in the attic should not be an issue, filaments are designed to be hot.

Probably either filaMites eating them or they were shaken too much when you put them up there.

Since I don't have an attic and my storage room next to my garage is heated and cooled, can't say I had this particular problem, Larry.

Good morning Larry. A pretty common complaint, some are replaced each year.

No, I haven't had that problem.  I usually buy new lights and expect that the old ones won't work.

Larry - During our summers it gets up to 115 degrees outside, so I can't even imagine how hot it gets in the attic. We have never had an issue with bulb filaments breaking due to the heat. I don't think that was the cause.

Larry Johnston I never heard of heat affecting the bulbs. A power surge when they were plugged in or dropping the bulbs may have caused this.

That is interesting. I did not know that the heat would break the bulb filaments.

I doubt that heat is the problem.

Nearly every Christmas light is stored in the attic in FLORIDA.  Attic heat is not the cause of filament breakage. The insulator degrades LONG before the what inside the hermetically sealed glass enclosure is affected.
