No lights and putting 2 DO NOT DISTURB signs on the door didn't keep the spooks from ringing our bell until 10pm.  Our neighborhood doesn't have spooks they are come in from other areas of town.

Zero. I live in a gated condo complex and almost never get trick or treaters, although there are many children who live in the complex. I recently found out there is a neighborhood map you are to add your house if you want trick or treaters to show up. I guess this is a way to keep the kids safe.

We probably had around 1,000.  We live on a loop that gets kids from all over the Island and also people drive from in town.  I usually spend at least $100 on candy.  My son decided to do the candy handing out this year though.  He spent $30 and all the candy was gone by 6-6:30.  Some kid came by and gave him all of his candy to pass out.  Too funny!  We could not even get back to our house until after 9:00.  Fun, fun!

I didn't turn on my light this year. It just seems pointless because we don't get many of them anymore. I know in my area the parents and kids tend to go to the golf course developement because they feel they get a better quality of candy there. I can tell you from my many years as a parent taking kids out, that is not the truth. There's plenty of great candy all over town.

I didn't have any, but my driveway is long, uphill and my lights were off.  I arrived home from the gym at 7pm and in my neighborhood the only person I saw was an adult out for a jog.

I think to some degree parents find it unsafe.  In my area for example, there are no street lights and not a lot of kids.  I was talking to a friend in another part of town and they were expecting over 400 kids this year.  They had over 300 last year.  Like doorknocking, I think it all depends on the area.  If an area isn't known for giving out candy, it doesn't pay to work that area.  Go where they are all giving out candy.  Churches and malls seem to be popular, but the mall I left just before 7pm didn't have any kids in it.

I had my lights off in the front, but when I got home for the first year I played video games in my office, which is in the front of the house.  I had some lights on, certainly enough to signal being home, and no knocks on the door.  I had all my perimeter lighting back on by 815 and most of my normal interior lighting.  It was dead out in my area.

I've heard the same thing from many people.  I don't believe it is related to safety.  It's because of being on a Saturday and having events to attend or parties to go to.  People didn't send the kids out trick or treating this year.  It was a family affair.

This year was odd. I can count the number of kids that ran my door bell. I went thru 2 bags full of candy last year.

Perhaps, it is because several churches in our community decided to host event in our local parks and churches.

Safety is a great concern...

Zero. Gate locked & porch light of in case there were. But in 8 years I've only seen 2 here ever...they must have been lost.

Not many kids in our area. We're more UCSD students and middle aged parents. Most of us here either have adult kids or no kids.
