We do our own yard work.  Working in the yard is a nice distraction from real estate, etc.

It was all good until we cut the giant Bird of Paradise down.  It hit me in the head and dropped me on my ass.

Concussion aside, I still really enjoy working in the yard.

William,

Definitely hire it done. I don’t like to do it and young people will do it cheap.

My expanse of Augustine grass can be nicely manicured with a weed whacker and hedge trimmer. The leaves from the tree easily managed with a wisk broom and baggie.

Today, my back yard is towered over by a blooming Cassia tree shrouded in a golden blanket, giant marigolds and pineapple plants bordered by Muhly grass in lavender splendor.

There is something deeply satisfying in knowing my hand helped.

We did our own for many years, but now we employ our son who is a professional landscaper. And by "employ" I mean we offer free storage of all of his landscaping equipment in exchange for the upkeep of our yard :)

My yard work is done by me.  There are many times I would like to hire it out and just can not justify the cost.  Also would mean to me that I am getting lazy.  lol  Mark

Depends on the task.  For the weekly "mow and blow" and monthly trimming I hire it out.  For minor things like replacing sprinklers, I do it myself.  New heads cost 30 cents.  Why pay 30 dollars for my gardner to do it?

My current project: I have a dead plum tree that some bug killed.  I'm chopping it down little by little week by week.  No sense in paying a company to do it when I can do it myself pretty easily and put it in my trash can each week.  No urgency on this task.
