I have never had to deal with this issue. Hanging animals is not common like it is in many areas.

No, but I do if the heads are from past spouses.

Judith Sinnard The advice is not limited to just that - they are advised to de-personalize all areas of all items.

I have suggested it but there are Sellers who will do what they want to do. My photographer and I try to make sure they're not in the photos
I did have a home that had several trophies on the walls but the one and only complaint I received from someone online was about a glassed and framed antique Confederate Flag displayed behind a bar. (I actually had to blow up my photos to actually find it!!)

I'd be inclined to ask that items like that be removed, as they can be a distraction from what is actually being sold.

Unless it is a mountain cabin or hunting lodge, the heads and all other stuffed critters have to go.

Opinions do vary, as a guy those things would not bother me and now that I think of it, I have seen them up before when showing houses.

yes, just remove them and don't bother putting up again until the next move in....

Yes, I do recommend such embellishments be removed....and the wall painted or resurfaced if this heirloom has been there for decades.
Sometimes the seller says, "Get over it!" That's my directive to market to "like-minded" buyers or buyers who are sufficiently educated to know they are not buying the furniture and wall hangings.

I did this summer. The Sellers had a HUGE elk head mounted in the office right off the front door. They were moving, and would have had to take it down eventually. Might as well not offend anyone.

Everyone should have a trophy room, some like big game, fishing, sports memorobelia or other awards. Whatever your favorite is makes no difference to me they never convey!

If they have an interest in selling faster and higher price, then yes, they should remove. Why have any % of buyers offended or distracted.

Absolutely. Mounted animal heads and full body displays should go to storage for the next house. Some sellers will not follow this suggestion and you have to live with it.

Thankfully, I've never come across that. I did have a listing that had Dolls everywhere including several child size ones in chairs. Buyers found it very off-putting.

Yes, I think anything personal should be removed and anything of a controversial nature is a definite - must go. And I grew up on a ranch and hunted for years -- but I do not want to lose buyers for my clients.

Having Bambi's mother's head hanging over the fireplace is not considered an appropriate staging prop in this area.

With the exception of mounted fish I ask them to remove them. But I work on a lake, sometimes those mounted fish sell the house

It depends upon who they are trying to attrack as buyers. We see a lot of rural hunting land parcels and cabins where pictures and harvest records are part of the advertising package.

Depends on where they are... A real man cave they are just fine...Master bedroom maybe not so much.

Yes, anything too personal is not good for a listing. The more generic the better.

Yes, they should be taken down, and also hidden. Why spend time and money to attract buyers only to have a % of them refuse to look at the house. They don't bother me, but many people don't like to see them. And be careful about getting involved with selling them. In some states it's illegal to sell them and you can/will be arrested.

It depends on the location. I'm sure it would be a benefit in areas where hunting is a major sport. It would be very appealing in liberal communities. It wouldn't be something I'd personally like to see in a home.

The comment thingie isn't working (keeps stalling) so going to have to this the old fasioned way.
David Gibson - even in a hunting lodge ... they take up wall space and take the focus off the features of the room .. so I'd have to see.
Sprit M - Yeah, I've seen them too .. and rarely .. very rarely do they add to the attractiveness of the room
Barbara T -yep. I think that is best
Annette L - I don't think sellers understand how it can hurt a sale becasue people can't "see" the room --- they just call it the house with the animal heads "Honey, do you want to go back and see that house with the animal heads again? Me neither. "
Joan C - I think that is the smart move.
Sandy and Norm P. EEEEEWWWW!!
Kevin M. - They don't convey but they may keep an otherwise interested buyer from becoming more interested -- they just can't see "past" them.
Debbie G. You nailed it.
Roy K. - Yep.. I vote pack 'em up for the next house, too.
Gabe S. - You got it.
Debbie R. - I find them VERY DISTRACTING .. having a hard time understanding the enhancement aspect...
Belinda S. - I find it creepy, but I think the important part is that they dominate the room .. making it very difficult for people to assess if the property "works" for them.
Amanda - I can see some buyers leaving .. why risk offending a buyer over DECORATING ... hellooooo!
Stefan - good call.
David B. - You got it.

I think these can be very distracting in my area so would suggest they be removed. However in mountains of Montana or Colorado it may be totally appropriate and enhance a property.

I'm with you. It creeps me out. I hate seeing animals killed for sport and the mounts are just a terrible reminder of that.
21,675
Yes, it's tacky and since you would potentially be bringing in a client would could buy the house, but would be so disgusted by it that they back out, it can cost a sale. Also, again, it's tacky haha

Have never run into this issue, it depends on the house though, if it is a cabin in the mountains it may very well work in the suburbs I would probably advise they be removed and stored.
