No, this is a consumer preference. If a male doesn't feel he relates particularly well to a female, he should be able to talk with a male. And vice versa, or any combination you can think of, actually.

People are free to choose their agent. They can even request a Vietnamese female, or any other nationality. Many people feel more comfortable working with someone that speaks their language.

Tony Lewis People can choose whomever they like to represent them. I don't see it as a double standard.

Gender is getting more complicated and who people are or choose to work with is an area I personally do not want to discuss because I do not want the offend or discriminate against any group based on gender

Actually both situations are discriminatory today and would not fly with the Fair Housing standards.  However, one would be hard pressed to enforce this.

Consumers can have their preferences without consideration of a possible double standard. We meet the needs and keep on moving on.

If that is what they are requesting yes.

As to the political correctness it does not fit me.

Tony,

Consumer preference is not politically incorrect.  Like you we are sick of these distinctions, and I think it creates more prejudice than it helps.  A

Unfortunately double standards like this exist in many areas of our society

I've had 2 previous careers before Real Estate. I've been a Certified Chef, people prefer men. I've been a Professional Photographer, people take my male counterparts more serious. So when I got into Real Estate, I found it refreshing that a lot of clients prefer female agents for whatever reason.

But I do get what you're saying Tony, it does seem like a double standard. However, I feel like the client should be comfortable with the agent they choose. As long as they aren't a total ass about it. ;)

Life is not fair.

Nature shows no mercy.

EVERYONE has an agenda.

Those who have picked up the mantle of entitlement feel empowered.

For everyone there exists entitlement....except the white male.

That's not fair.

No double standard is "acceptable" per se; it is a matter of what is socially and politically tolerated at that particular moment.

I've never heard of a gender preference for a Realtor at all, and, no, I don't think it's acceptable.

I do have  a preference for female physicians and hair dressers - is that a double standard?

I do not see anything wrong about it, as well. Client wants to feel comfortable with a person he/she hires. Don't you feel the same when you come for a massage, hair cut, or some specific doctors?

Choosing an agent these days has never been easier. We are online, they see our yard signs, they can find out our backgrounds from our websites, etc. IMO, customers don't call agencies and say, "I want to work with a woman (or man), who do you have?" I've worked with all kinds of clients and the fact that I'm a woman has not been a problem. In fact, I've had some "good old boys" investors call me to list their properties because they know I'm a straight shooter and can get the job done.

I would like to say this wouldn't bother me, but given the rural nature of my area, I would think this potential client would think I wasn't qualified as a woman to do the work and have the knowledge of the area and the mountains, backroads and irrigation issues. It might offend me for that reason only.

I've never had this happen to me.

Tony, customers can make any requests.  But we, of course, can't apply any sort of standard like this to the clients we choose to work with!

Actually I would rather work with a man.  that way there is no misunderstood words that may come back and bite one.  I would suspect the same would hold true for a female.  I don't want any accusations made which were taken out of content
