Easy, by the use of "Gophers" and i mean it was me being told to "go for" this, "go for" that, go pick up the paperwork, go get the signatures, go back and drop off signed paperwork and on and on for many years.

Michael, I ask this question daily... I started in the business world in the early 1970's.... over the ensuing decades negotiated major corporate acquisitions without all these tools. When I started in real estate we sold a ton of it in NYC without mls, cell phones, computers, etc. If it all went away, I could still work--I've had decades of experience!

We'd definitely survive - probably even thrive. Without all that info at their fingertips, homeowners and home buyers would be much more dependent on us.

Just pull out the old stone and chisel, parchment and feather pen, wax seal and finger poker for signatures.

Speak with mouth rather than texting, emailing all day long.

Physical tours rather than photography, iphotography and videography.

Horse and carriage rather than car.

See, it can be done!

Things just moved at a slower pace.  I can't imagine life now wo/ cell phones in particular...and yet, I lived a good portion of my life wo/ them and did perfectly fine.

The Agent you choose REALLY does make a difference

I remember well a time when there was one cell phone to be "signed out" for business trips in the division in the NYC bank where I worked early on.  Though hard to imagine working without them,  some aspects of life would improve.  We've gained much, but at the expense of real personal interaction.

I'm often ask myself the same question. Cell phones became powerful and very valuable tools. That's why I believe, it is a good investment to have  good mobile devices.

Do I still have a computer and a printer?  I was around the industry when Realtors had pagers and you had to find a pay phone to call the person back.  If the mobile phones, tablets and apps went away I would do wonderfully, might even make me better by not being distracted by every email that comes in.  Take away computers and go back to the days of paper forms with carbon copies... I doubt my board would have those!

It thrived, Michael. It was just different. Transactions were slower, more face-to-face contact with both clients and vendors, and in many ways I think it was a better experience for both agents and our clients. Much less misinformation.
