My husband and I were going to flip homes many years ago, and decided to go to real estate school. While there thought this could be a wonderful opportunity, and the rest is history.

My wife was already in Real Estate. When the company downsized and I was eliminated, she convinced me to join the profession. Now I work for her. It's funny how that works!

I worked as a staff assistant for a busy office in a resort town. That made me decide that real estate was what I wanted to do.

Easy money!
Be my own boss!
I liked touring houses!
I lived in one too!
Shiny, clean, new cars.
Can't be hard, look who is doing it.
What's not to like?
And look! HERE I AM!

I have been in marketing for over 20 years. I started marketing for real estate agents in the early 90s. Prior to moving to Nashville, I was providing marketing consulting services for the #3 agent in Athens, GA. When I stopped, he was #1. I decided to put those same marketing skills to use for my own real estate business.

Good morning Winston. I wrote in my high school yearbook, I was going to be a real estate owner, it just happened from there.
Make it a great week!

not wanting a new boss I didn't like. That was the only factor involved really

My previous real estate agent. She asked if I was going to work and at the time I didn't have an answer. She asked me to attend an inhouse seminar and I did.

There aren't that many careers where one that has retired from an earlier career can get into and do well. Real Estate is one of the few opportunities that allows this.

The fact that I really can't work for other people, I needed something with big income potential that let me run my own business and real estate happen to be the perfect fit.

I've always enjoyed architecture and houses. When I was growing up in Orange County, California new home developments were being built and there were many Sundays spent looking. You'd think a kid would be bored but not me.
My only regret is that I didn't become licensed earlier.

GPS.
I'd wanted to be in real estate for a while, but I'm terrible with directions. A Thomas Guide was an exercise in frustration for me. If I had everything mapped out and a client wanted to take a detour, I was screwed.
I bought a GPS FOR something like $700.00 online which sounds like a horrifyingly high price today, but it was totally worth it.

I was a part owner in a family market in Sylmar, California. My mother got ill and my father needed to end the partnership to take care of her. There was a salesman servicing our health and beauty aids department. He told me that he was closing escrow on the sale of a home. We discussed the field of Realtor and the next day I signed up for the Lumbleau Real Estate School. I went through the school and towards the end of the program I spoke with the salesman again. I asked if he had closed anymore deals. He said no and that the $200,000 condo was his first and only sale. I nearly fell over. I had just left a lucrative career that needed to support me, my wife and two young daughter living in Valencia, California. I became as scared as possible. We nearly went through our life's savings before hitting our first sale 7 month later. We made it and became successful. Our career is a tough one at the beginning and one needs to be a natural at it.

As a 3rd Generation Realtor, I had family tell me to stay OUT of the industry. My only regret is that I would have started when I was younger! Still, I learned many skills working a Fortune 500 job, got sick of drinking the Kool-Aid and started working for myself. Glad I did.

I was working for a builder as a payroll manager. The builder thought I would be good as an real estate agent. He paid for R.E. school & the state text. That is how I started as an agent.

In 1989 I was dead broke from my retail stores closing, was moving to Seattle, but the influence was being with my Dad in his old age. Had to do something and a tennis friend said try real estate. I said what the hell I'll give it a go, and after 46 sales in my first year, I said to myself, this can work.

Working with agents when looking for my own homes who didn't listen to me. When I said I wanted to be in a pre-war building in NYC between Fifth and Park Avenues and they take me to a 1960's building off Second Avenue, it's very frustrating. I thought I could run rings around these agents just by listening to clients and I did!

Out of sheer interest, I took an architectural & design course. After that, I studied for and took the real estate licensing test. I kept my license inactive for a few years while I had a "real" job. After getting married, I decided more flexibility in my work schedule would be great. And, the rest is history.
