If we were to use a drone, it would be for limited use and with a specific purpose, i.e., to show a special attribute of the property, not for a neighborhood tour.

I just heard on the news they are going to crack down on drones due to the possibility of terrorist acts.  A few bad apples ruin it for all of us.

You have to make sure that you comply with the federal and state regulations on the use of drones. The real estate industry has been targeted for compliance.

We are not living in, or buying into an aerial home in the sky. Who makes important decisions on how their home to be looks from above?  Selling from the ground up makes sense. Not the sky down. Its a toy-ploy

Here's a fact I just learned: If you operate a drone for commercial (paid for) use, you have to have a commercial pilot's license or the FAA can fine you; and the fines are in the $$$thousands$$$. For fun, they are free, for fee, they require a commercial pilot's license for the time being...I just learned this last week from a pilot friend of mine, it's a big topic amongst pilots.

Not all listings are best presented by droning... but many are.   I say case-by-case.

A drone is a great tool.  As is home staging and/or 3D tours.  Depending on your costs and marketing requirements, you might need to do one or all.

I own and operate www.realestatedronessd.com and Realtors are not violating any laws or regulations whatsoever if they hire a Drone/UAV Service.

There are currently several different classifications of drones and the law is not clear on them at this time.  There are Micro-UAV's, Small-UAV's, and UAV's ranging from .55LBS to 55LBS.  A new bill was released the other day mandating new laws in the next 90-270 days.

Did you know that a Drone Company with a 333 Waiver is most likely breaking the law by filming your listing?  So following the NAR instructions might actually get you in to trouble because most listing videos violate numerous rules within this waiver such as filing a flight plan 3 days before flying or obtaining property and personal waivers from places or people that may appear in your listing video.

At the end of the day, this is a burgeoning industry that TOP AGENTS utilize on every listing.  In addition to this, consumers are demanding this medium from their agents to even get the listing.  On top of all that, we are seeing that our videos help reduce the average sales cycle by 90 days.  It is what it is.

I'm not going to violate the current FAA regulations.  I live in an area with significant no fly zones yet see real estate videos that definetly are not in compliance.
