I saw my home address with the state license, and had it changed, and definitely feel that is a safety issue.

When your home address is available to the world, you have privacy and safety issues.

On our area, public tax records provide much information to anyone who is searching for home addresses and home values.

Chris Lima Yes, it is a privacy issue, but no one seems to care or protect a persons privacy any more. My State only shares name, company affiliation, status, and only city, state and zip code for address.

Yes, the personal address of real estate agents is posted on that website.

It is one of the many ways an agent can be found.

So even if you take great care to protect yourself and your family on SM, the State of Florida will throw you and your family under the bus.

I do believe it creates personal hazard. The only address that is needed or should be published is that of the broker.

Maybe one should consider a DBA as an agents buiness identity.

A lot of regulatory and other government agencies in states and provinces throughout the USA and Canada provide information on their websites.  In the past, SSNs were also publicly posted but many agencies started to redact them as identity theft issues became more widely known.

At one time, I was filing personal property tax returns throughout the USA for businesses.  Sometime later, I would receive letters from third party companies asking if I knew that a particular state or local government had assessed a certain amount of tax on property valued at $X and they could help reduce the amount.  Well, no they couldn't reduce the amount because the amount filed was correct.  These third party companies could buy all of the filing information for tall taxpayers from the authority for a nominal amount and then receive a CD.

I'm under no illusion of privacy in 2015. Anyone can Google you, your phone GPS says where you are at any moment, Google Maps shows your house from the street view, even your car's GPS tells where you are when not at home: privacy is an illusion since at least the 1990's, in our security camera, internet & mobile phones, web-based society. Even your home security cameras can be hacked to spy on you (recently in the news). So, George Orwell's 1984 happened a while ago; privacy is in the woods with no technology (as long as the trees hide you from the satelites overhead with real time video. I'd say enjoy the celebrity and not worry about what was lost years ago.

Thank you all for sharing your perspective.  Honestly, I didn't give it much thought until my girlfriend brought it up and then I started thinking....uh oh!
