I find it helps to be well rounded with a lot of interests because then you are interesting and can show you are interested in your clients by being able to share a little bit of you with them.?

A little, but most of our relationships relate to how we are going to help with their project, so a successful project outcome is the most important interest that we have in common.

Maybe prospective clients call me because we share some interests, because when they call, they feel they know me probably from my websites and blogs. But we generally get right down to business. They are hiring a professional, and I'm it. Obviously it helps to be on their wavelength ie. when you hear that they play golf or tennis at Pebble Beach you can relate, ditto going to the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel now vs. 20 years ago, talking about who will win Wimbledon this year, and what California wines have made a name for themselves, etc. etc.

Yes I think it helps to have some common interests so you can talk about them and get to know each other better. It is not absolutely necessary though. Most people like food or travel or flowers or cars and you can strike up a conversation.

Gary Mellott Rapport has always been the key to developing a relationship with a potential client.

Common personal interests may be nice but the most important common interest is in the real estate transaction.
