Without them, what would you use to pick up poop??  We use them as kitchen garbage bags too.  What I will not do however, is pack my own groceries!

Recently Dallas passed an ordinance which required stores to charge 5 cents for a plastic bag.  The plastic bag industry filled a law suite.  The city then rescinded the ordinance.  The city of Austin passed an ordinance which banned them altogether.

Though I know that from an ecological standpoint it is MUCH better to use paper, I do enjoy the plastic bags which seldom get wasted and most of them get reused until they are no longer serviceable.

On more occasions than I care to count, I have traveled behind the Waste Management truck as plastic bags were billowing from the bin and taking flight at 50 MPH. 

It is easy to believe the citizen is the cause of roadside trash, but I would argue differently.

Kill a tree, use plastic or ban beef  because cows fart, there is an emotional argument to be presented by every 'radicalized' group. 

What does common sense say? I mean that very rare sense exhibited by you and I, not our radicalized mouth pieces, that challenges us to sustainability. 

Just this past Sunday, I am on the extreme end of North Beach, at the very last bench, and find a dozen soda cans left behind by idiots. These we will always have with us (referring to idiots), however, we should not create laws, restrictions, taxes, and other costs based on those who will always be present in their ignorant ways. 

Citizen trash is addressed at the school bus stop. If they don't learn there, they will be spewing trash the rest of their lives. As a consumer, if one understands they will be discarding an unused plastic bag, they should choose other methods of containing their goods.

I like and re-purpose plastic store bags. They are used in place of other plastic bags I would use if they were not available. It's going to be the Glad Kitchen bag or the re purposed store plastic bag. In either case they will be used, filled and not capable of taking flight from the Waste Management garbage truck.

Now, how about those Gator Aide bottles and Styrofoam McDonald's drink containers?

You have to pay for plastic bags when shopping in our area. We have our own bags.

And paper cuts down trees and canvas are full of organisms and mold.

Walking or biking I pick them up, collect a bunch then recycle. People ask me why and they're told to look around, Do you see any cans, bottles or bags on the grass? Exactly!

Definitely to recycle them. 

I like plastic bags.....

It's just like everything else.  If people would dispose of them properly, there wouldn't be a problem.  The same goes for cigarettes.  If they would use their ash trays (or quit smoking),  California wouldn't have so many forest fires.  Here in the midwest you always see fires along side the highways, where they threw their cigarattes out the windows.  As far as the paper bags, I would hate to have one get caught in the engine of a plane I was riding in while taking off or landing.  That's my story!

I'm glad it's been repealed....sometimes I dont have bags with me and want to stop - I've driven over to Costa Mesa to shop rather than HB for this reason.  I do recycle all of my plastic bags, but I like the convenience of them so it was annoying that they were banned.

I think people need to just stop being scum bags and littering, there are plastic bag recycling options everywhere....nearly every grocery store has recycling receptacles, and recycling pickup takes them too - no reason for plastic bags to be floating around the ocean or anywhere else.

I was raised in Europe where you always bring your own bags and once people are used to it, it works great. For me I shop at whole foods, they only give paper bags and I then use those as my trash bags, not sure if that can be considered recycling or keeping more plastic trash bags out of the landfills.

The biggest thing that could help in my opinion is if more places do what whole foods does and give you 10 cents or what not off your bill for each bag you bring with you.
