I'm not an expert here, but yes, if it's the same, it's duplicate content. Now that probably won't really hurt you if it's in 2 or 3 places and it's content you own. But, google will only index it once and show it on the search results once, so it won't really help you. Google will choose which it indexes and that may or may not be your preference.
for that reason, always put the original content on the site you prefer first and make sure that google indexes it. That will help, but will not guarantee that it showing that site.
then, as others have mentioned, the idea is not to copy and paste, but rather to edit and make different.
