If I sold their house in FLORIDA and they've moved to Fairbanks, I will keep them on newsletter only. These folks WILL be back in less that 5 years, usually 9 months.
If they purchased a house in my market place, they are on my monthly call list.
If they sold and purchased in my market place, they are on my monthly call list.
If they attempted to buy or sell and were unsuccessful, I keep them on drip and newsletter and quarterly call.
All of these will already be plugged into the resources they found beneficial during the transaction.

Rick Obst - this is MUST for our business! Stay in touch - at least 33 times a year - as per MREA (Red Book of Real Estate).
There are ways - have them in your CRM and have constant reminders to call them. I love Brian Buffini's ReferralMaker that keeps me on top of that task. The similar provision is there in most CRM you use.
And the best way is - just call them! Of course you can email/text/mail - however voice2voice (phone) and face2face (pop-by) is the best way to stay in touch.

Stop by or pop by as Brian Buffiny would say and monthly reminders through direct mail, or newsletter

We keep in touch with all of our past clients, with newsletters, post cards, birthday cards and occasional phone call. They seem to keep in touch with us mostly.

I've been using facebook well for that! It allows us to stay connected in a casual, informal way.
