This is a good question. I have found that some of my recent posts have not received the traffic so I think I have to re-evaluate the topics I post under!

I tend to write about a variety of topics so it changes with the subject.

Larry, under a wide variety of topics as it depends on what the post is about and who the intended audience is. I am very hesitant to post something under "humor or just for fun" as I was one time chided for placing it there on what I thought was a clever and humorous post!

I post to a lot of different topics. First I have the idea of what I want to write, and then I write it and select the category it belongs in. I post a lot of home buying and selling and local posts. I also do some just for fun stuff. I'm all over the board.

The most is learned from the tech posts... the insertions are done in a round robin of them all. Localism is key to be the local go to for knowledge.

I select the community and topic appropriate for the audience I hope will read.
For example, I do not wish for 'public' to read how to hold a goal oriented open house, so I will be kept within the AR community.
If I want critical review of an marketing idea, I'll post to PUBLIC since I don't market to the AR community and the public is most likely able to reveal to what they will respond.
And if I'm trolling for points, I post where the greatest number of eyes exist.

Good questions Larry, I post mostly to the ActiveRain Community thinking it would have a wider audience.

I do a lot of Home Buying and Home Selling and some local posts and AR Community. When it is a listing, it will go in the buy or sell category so it can be seen by buyers and sellers.

I don't look at topic. Now that I think about it I comment on listings, market reports, personal posts, I'm across the board.

Usually under Market Trends - my posts are usually market reports, Larry.

Jeez Don Davies, GRI "AshevilleRealEstateTrends.com" I congratulate you on your success. As a KW agent our culture is one of contribution. I was not advising, just stating my own personal fact that I have in a shorter period of time garnered 6 referrals that netted $40K in GCI. Lucky me. Have a great weekend.

Don Davies, GRI "AshevilleRealEstateTrends.com" What a shame you think that. I have had 6 referrals that closed from my friends here on Active Rain. I think you need to expand your thinking after 6 years of doing the same thing and not getting any referrals, don't you think?

This is all wonderful and follows my approach. I post where I most think it is appropriate. When I have a listing that describes the local market and competition I get confused as to posting it in the Consumer section under Selling or Buying. Since we all post quite often I am comfortable with continuing to do what I have been doing. Thanks for all these great and personal answers. I love Active Rain!!
