Having a great brand is a great "exit strategy." One of our clients who decided to retire and see the world, sold the brand we created for here for mid 6 figures. Her website at the times used to generate 4 closed deals a quarter in the luxury arena of her marketplace from $800,000 and up. A

I think a database and excellent systems are the real keys to an effective exit strategy,

We are beginning to talk about a Succession plan for the company. Just at the beginning stages, yet very important.

I had an offer recently but could not do it. Tomorrow ask I and might say see ya. I'm enjoying this bus still so my strategy is to sell when I'm ready.

The great thing on this business is you can do it for a long time. I want to build a brand that someday I can manage on fewer hours or sell if I want. that is a long ways off but something to keep in mind.

I don't have one and probably won't for a long time but a few steps to take would be strengthening your brand and having a solid database that you could sell to another individual or company for something worthwhile...

Hi Brian -- interesting question with some insightful answers. It's definitely something everyone who is seriously in the business should be thinking about.
I agree with Ritu Desai regarding her comments about Barbara Todaro who consistently shares with us how she has transformed her business.
Alexandra's Ron & Alexandra Seigel comment should also serve as a real-life example of what we should be considering.

Not as of yet. I am beginning to think about it as I have decided I do not want to be a full time agent in my 70s. Many of my friends still work in their 70s and if it suits them fine.

I am an old guy and I plan on working until I die. I am working on a system that will survive me.

Yes, refer buyers and sellers to a younger, hungrier agent. This lady is grateful for the business and always graciously pays the referral fee. I don't think I'll ever just "exit". I've got the rental property and will always want to do some typ of sales, health permitting.

I helped an older friend develop an exit strategy and it was just in time, as her health rapidly declined and she couldn't continue her business. Everyone should have one no matter what our age.

Brian Rugg not even thought of - however, it's a good idea to think over it.

Unfortunately most of us are not organized enough to have an exit strategy. I have 2 well funded iRAs..

Hello Brian, I had one a few years ago by having a partner but it did not work out so now I need a exit strategy again.

I have no interests in exiting at this time of my life, other than the usual way, and I have no control over that.

Yes, of course I do, doesn't everyone? I have contact records with the calls and visists I have made over the years, plus business earned by each of them and systems and processes in place.

Looking at that myself as a move may occur in the next 2-3 years. It's worth careful consideration, and I've got a coach I work with for just that long-term objective.

I am working on building a team so that I do have an exit strategy that will continue after I retire

Unfortunately, I believe many small real estate companies' exit strategy is the death of the owner.
