Richard - in a word, NO. It's a waste of time, energy, and money.

I haven't paid for a print ad in traditional media in 10 years. I do better with online marketing for a much more competitive price!

No, we don't. I know few agents who do, but most of their business comes from other sources. Seems, like a waste of money.

No but my company does. I'm surprised that it does get some action for our listings.

No.
It's not like there are a bunch of listings. Agents and buyers will find the listing.
A weird feeling is walking into a Starbucks with a newspaper when everyone else has an iPad or smart phone. The news in the newspaper is yesterday's news.

Open house ads in our local newspaper are effective.
I can't believe that ads in an out of town newspaper would be of any value.

Hi Richard - as all real estate is local so is the method we use to achieve results. I use newspaper as well as online exposure, open house events and direct mail. The amount of time and dollars devoted to each may change but each still receives part of my marketing budget.
Finding what works best for you in your marketplace and doing it on a consistent basis is best.

Richard,
Some people say print is dead, and it may be in different marketplaces. However in many of the marketplaces we have worked in, the newspapers work as does localized magazines...A

Yes. Local.
Be aware, anything that gets you noticed is advertising. I do use local papers to get noticed.

just reviewing some questions and answers from this time last year, looks like this one got a few good replies.

Richard, we only advertise in the local papers when having an Open House.

I do use local newpapers to generate business.
I DO NOT use local newpapers to advertise listings.
Rethink your objectives.

No. Unless the seller insist on it. I do offer it in my marketing package, but recently no one is asking me to do so.

There was a time when it was the thing to do, but newspapers are not as well read as it usee to be. Everything has gone to the computer age.

I'm in an extremely rural area. I have 1800 people in my town. NO...there isn't a zero missing there. My entire county has less than 29 thousand people. The sellers want to see advertisements in the local shopper paper that comes out once a week. My company does this to keep a presence in the community, and we do get calls on this. I'm going to close on a vacant lot due to one of our advertisements.

My newspaper ad budget is getting smaller and smaller. I will advertise if I think the property demands it. No very much as in the past.

Our company advertises open houses on Sundays in the newspaper. Occasionally someone says they saw the ad. Otherwise I haven't used the newspaper in the last couple of years.

The reason why I'm asking is at this point I've tried several different avenues to advertise.
I recently spent $800 on a quarter page ad in a local city newspaper advertising some very nice looking condos priced competitively. The paper claims to have distribution of 60,000 papers. I received one phonecall.
All other methods including unaddressed admail, Facebook ads, online ads, blogging, etc. have garnered much more success.
I understand its not a sprint, it's a marathon but at $800 a shot I doubt I'll try it again.

I do advertise my open houses in the local newspapers on the weekend of the open house, only because my company pays for it. Most of the folks who come to my events tell me that they have learned about the open house through the internet, though.

All the time and It gets me over 60% of my calls and 90% happy clinets.
