I have all of our cars ready for apx 2 days.   Candles, matches and food to go along with blankets and stuff to keep warm...Also, I have common sense in the cars that we dont' go where we could be stranded for that long.

Yes, I keep emergency supplies at home and in my vehicle.  I have foldable solar panels and 12V deep cycle batteries for power outages.  I have also completed training for CERT (Community Emergency Response Training).

Watch the TV series Doomsday Preppers on NetFlix for ideas on preparing for emergencies or "doomsday".  I recently did blog posts about the Cobra XT545 two-way emergency radio, and the hand crank/solar Katio KA360 AM/FM/Weather emergency radio/flashlight.

For long-life rechargeable batteries, use Panasonic Eneloop brand.

My car (x-terra) came with a built-in first aid kit, I always have extra jackets/hoodies in the backseat, crank flashlight in the console, and I always keep a water bottle in the car.

Many of us would fail this test. Your question is a good reminder for all of us to be prepared for emergency situations.

FOR A FEW HOURS? No, I can endure a few hours of discomfort without special preparations.

A FEW DAYS? Now we're talking about something REAL. And you bet I do!

Water. Bushwhacking apparel. energy/protein bars. igniter. crank radio. Every summer I strand myself and challenge myself to out-think, out-wit, out-last and enjoy this special time on the Savannah.

The Pilot provides convenient places to stow such provisions well out of sight of clients who may be traveling with me.

I remember being stuck in the snow and ice with my mom when I was around 10. I had to go to the bathroom so badly and the snow was so deep. We had a paper cup in the car so I used it. Mom wouldn't let any of us leave the car. We waited a couple of hours for a tow truck to come. It seemed like an eternity.

I must admit I really don't, as those things are so rare in Charlotte, we tend not to think about it. But I should get my act together.

Yes. I used to live in the Bay Area of California and had friends stuck on the highway for many hours after the Loma Prieta earthquake. Lesson learned! For me the biggest must-carry is drinking water and a pair for good walking shoes in case I need to hike home.

Not always. And I know better. I use to keep a sleeping bag in my car, but I haven't done that in a few years. I always have water with me.
