I asked the exact same question....well, different wording....about a week ago. A few people posted that the time that shows is Pacific time, no matter what our time zone is, but this still doesn't address the issue of posted in order written. I see that The Spears gave an answer. To me, this is TOTALLY STUPID! If there is a "discussion" going on within the answers (and there OFTEN is), then messing with the order will destroy the logic of the discussion. ALSO, if I just post, why does my answer jump up several places immediately - NOBODY has had time to vote my post up or down, so unless there are a whole lotta down voted posts which are "in the negative" and I immediately go above them, it makes no sense, and I seriously doubt this.

Hope they get this back to "the old way"!!!!

*edit - just saw where this post went to the top of the ones with no votes and the two above me had one upvote each. STILL think it's a dumb way to sort!!

** double edit - I gave myself an Upvote and the Spears one as well. They moved to the top, and now I'm right below them.

Again, to try to "follow" the thread, this is just goofy!

Susan, I don't think you're missing anything.  They tinkered with the display for answers in one of the recent AR updates.  Those with the most Upvotes go to the top of the thread, so it's no longer about chronology.

I think it has something to do with the upvotes.  It's confusing,  I used to "like" answers but haven't "upvoted"  anything yet.

Also, there used to be #'s on the comments so at least you can see the order.

Matt Holder a lot of this depends on type of question. Many of the questions (including ones I've asked) are conversational in nature and the answer developed.  For example, I asked a q about marketing to realtors and several agents made suggestions, and then I asked them more about those ideas and started to develop those ideas.  Likewise, people have asked q's where I answered and they had several follow up q's.

It was better to be able to follow the string of answers and have the ability to sort by best answers.  but for some q's "best answer" may not be relevant as it's a series of connected thoughts.

Matt Holder  While I do appreciate your answer, I respectfully disagree that conversations don't contribute to finding the best answer, since "best answer" for one or even the majority is not the same for everyone.  Just as all agents have different business models and all states have different guidelines for real estate transactions, what works best for one may be anathema to others.  When I look at a question, I am not going to only read the one "best answer" as voted on by who knows who?  I prefer to know the reasoning behind the answers, and often that can only be figured out by having the conversation, perhaps asking for enlightenment. As Debbie Gartner mentioned, perhaps allowing the option so we might decide for ourselves which fits our individual needs best would be the best option for all concerned.  For those who prefer to know the most popular answer, great, it's there...for those of us who like to dig a little deeper and have conversations with other practioners, that's there, too.  Win/win.  Thanks for listening!

Hi Susan Haughton - We acqknowledge your frustration and are planning improvements to make it easier to follow conversations within Q&A since the main purpose of this page is to help people find answers to the question asked. Conversations don't always contribute to that goal, so we're trying to find the balance.

The Q&A section is fairly new so we're learning everyday ways to make the system better.

Kris Neese personally, I liked it better before - sorted by order of answer and then ability to sort by most thumbs up.  If you can't do that, then at least allow us to sort.  This makes it very confusing and this has been asked many times on here.

Also, very few are even upvoting, so not sure that we really are getting the best answers first anyway.

Also, there needs to be some way to sort through q's. I keep seeing the same q's come up again and again and it seems like a waste...and it's kind of annoying.

Kris Neese Thanks for answering; we will just agree to disagree and I will just stop using Q&A as a resource because I really do not care what the masses think is the best answer, I prefer to follow the conversation and listen to what other people say - I find that reading what others say is far more helpful in considering different approaches than having it decided for me. To not even have the option of viewing it differently is a fail in my opinion, but it's clearly not my call. Thanks.

Travis "the SOLD man" Parker; Associate Broker   I'm with you 100%. Very frustrating.  Liz and Bill Spear I agree - even when some of the changes in the past have seemed misquided, I have always remained positive.  These changes, though, seem so juvenile to me and are leading us in the wrong direction.  This isn't high school, and popularity should not be a factor. Perhaps this is the Trulia influence? Sad.

Susan, I really don't like to be negative about AR, but yeah, that's kind of what I'm feeling right now with some of the changes.  The most votes, the most likes, we're equating popularity/traffic with quality, and often it seems to me popularity has little to do with value or quality.

Ah, so we're back to the high schoolish "most popular" approach.  It's annoying, makes it difficult to follow a long thread and frankly, keeps me from reading the answers to questions that have more than one or two answers. It's a shame, really, because it is going to hamper participation, not encourage it.  Thanks, Debbie Gartner and Liz and Bill Spear for your answers.

That is so weird. It looks like they eliminated that option.  We used to have a window where you could sort in different ways.

Kris Neese is there a way to add that back?

Kris Neese ,

the 'best and popular answer' is not always the best answer. Please add more filters. It is more important to see recent comments. I haven't find a member yet, who liked 'upvote' suggestion.

We are all missing filters.

AR please add filters everywhere.

I often try to research a topic and it is so annoying that there is no way to filter by date. I click a lot of old blogs with outdated information before finding anything if ever, more recent.

It's not you. AR now makes it so the most popular answers are moved towards the top. They are all out of order and it doesn't make any sense that it should be done this way. This system makes it impossible to follow a good conversation that gets started.

You're not going crazy, we removed the "sort" option about two weeks ago. The intent is to get people voting for the best answer to the question, and then having those best answers float to the top while the "not actually an answer" answers float to the bottom.

It isn't about popularity, it's about creating a better long-term resource for our members. If you were to find one of these questions in a month with 30 answers, would you want to read through it as a conversation or would you just want to see what people felt was the best answer?
