I not not want to market myself at my church. I have gone as far as having my gmail account set up as a contact, and not my business email.

If the conversation turns to real estate I will tell that I am a REALTOR and offer my opinion if it seems appropriate. I have gotten some clients from church.
Hank, I know a lot of agents who get lots of business from their church congregation. I think you have to be careful to avoid being brash about prospecting - especially at funerals.
Hank, I never bring up the subject of Real Estate at church BUT I am always willing to discuss it if asked. I do invite people to ask me as I almost always have on my Realtor lapel pin. I also have my coats/jackets embroidered with the Realtor insignia. I think the best CE course I ever took was one explaining that you make sure your sphere of influence knows you sell Real Estate but you NEVER sell them Real Estate unless they ask you to.
I am shameless in some ways when talking business. If someone wants to talk I will offer to go for coffee after service. Or...Stop by their home...If someone wants to talk I will listen. But, I will admit, I sneak a sentence in when I can without looking like I am pushing myself.
Everybody wants to talk about real estate. You do not get a chance to draw any lines.
Hank - I believe in the soft approach in that people know that I'm an agent (among several in the congregation), so I will let them bring it up and answer any specific questions they may ask, make sure they have my email address or phone, and tell them to let me know if they have any more questions.
When you meet someone, ask what they do. That usually prompts them to ask what you do. Answer the question, but don't make a pitch.
If people like you and know what you do, they'll probably approach you when the time comes. You do not want to become the guy people avoid.

I usually don't discuss politics and religion in business deaings. It does come up at time but I don't reveal what my beliefs are, particularly if I know they conflict with beliefs my client has shared.
