Evelyn Johnston actually I should answer this differently as if I did not have any - whereas I hosted one and attended another one.
The reason most of them stay away is - they are afraid no one will attend! Second - inviting, arranging etc. It's little extra work involved in it - however, believe me, it's worth it. (The answer is based on trying to organize my meet up where I was the only one there and no one else showed up.)
I did not give up - and this time, we had 10! I hope it's going to grow and double up by the end of the year.

If there are no meetups in your area, that's a good oportunity to have one. There were none in Ohio, Michigan, Illinois and Indiana, so we decided to have one. Having an Active Rain meetup may not always have to be members. You can invite agents or other related non members and while at the meetup you can show them what AR is all about. We always like new members.

The people most interested in attending are not in our area, and most of them will probably be attending a funeral of one of our members this weekend which is about the only time we could gather.

I have an opposite problem here - so many members stepping up to host! We had at least 3 people step up to host in the same small area this time around.

I did, turnout was bleek. That's why I haven't done it again. But since my state had none, perhaps next time.
