"Do you want a highly qualified agent representing your interests, or one who would get involved in such a desperate situation as your brother has proposed?"

If the listing is in your farm area, or otherwise important to you, consider offering to pay his brother a referral fee.

You mean Discount Broker? What? Discount Broker?

Do you think your home is worth handing it over to a discount broker?

It's so beautiful - why do you want to discount your home?

I would have to agree with Yolanda's answer based on a query to Chief Cook.

"Well that's certainly an option for you if you feel it's more important to get small part of a commission as opposed to a considerably higher priced net from the sale of your home"

Yolanda Hoversten you have it right.
Jeff Pearl you would think the buyer would know better, but the expectation of saving a few dollars has muddled his thinking.
Scott Godzyk the shiny attraction of a few dollars saved will evaporate when the agent weighs their compensation in assisting in a sale 45 minute drive time away and decides to transfer responsibility to the buyer agent.
Pam Sitterly the price point, property type and situation do not merit paying the licensed brother in MN. My hope is the owner has the courage to call me when the wheels on the wagon start to wobble. Do you think I should check in? Would that be interfering with an existing contract?
Victoria Small and that not refering to the service provided.. I did not debate the owners decision. I hope it goes well.

I don't think there's anything sinister about this. If I understand it correctly, the owner's brother is a MN agent (who hopefully is a Realtor,) wants to refer the business to an agent in Florida. It sounds like the brother/agent will get a referral fee when it closes which is then passed on to the owner/seller. I do hope the referral fee is paid through the MN brother/agent's broker.

I woudn't base my choice of agents in FL on what my brother in MN think. i don't quite understand the scenario. Does your brother in MN want to refer a buyer in FL to a discount agentt in FL that is going to  ake an offer on one of your listings?

I would say you could get a very small amount of money that way IF and when your home sells. OR you can list with an experienced agent who may be able to sell you home quicker and at the highest possible amount making you more money than a cheaper sale price even when adding the  small amount you get from your brother
