If a member passes away, we will not remove profiles unless requested by family members. We have in the past been contacted by family to request that blog posts remain public for their memory. We'll respect that. However, we will update profiles to remove:
- Personal phone numbers
- Agent/company information if necessary
- Any other information that may be borderline compliance issues
We are looking into updating the way members are ranked on the Leaderboards so that this won't be such an issue, Roy.

Thank Nina Hollander you should know by now I have a weird/twisted and crazy mind at times....lol
The reason I asked the question is I just recently passed a dear friend in the RAIN who passed last year and it made me sad to see his profile picture when I should have been happy seeing it. He was a wonderful man and brought so much to the real estate community. It made me think about asking the question.

Thanks Gabe Sanders I also agree its like Kathleen Daniels says "In Loving Memory", wouldn't that be a tribute.

They have earned their right to be there. I like the idea of a "In Loving Memory" status. Their posts absolutely should remain unless any surviving members request otherwise. Of course, there might be other legal issues involved, but AR corporate needs to address and manage that.

I think it is OK too but it would be nice that there was a disclosure somewhere that this agent is now deceased.

Well, that is an interesting question. Internet info is intellectual property that is inherited by the heirs, it is their legacy...We read books by authors long dead, (Shakespeare for one)...I think AR may want to contact the heirs on this one.

Hello Mary Weiss , I'm glad you answered this question and perhaps its been answered in the past but I had no idea. I think its great AR doesn't remove them especially when they have great content to learn from, that is one of the many reasons we're here is to learn from others.
Now we know ....... thanks Bob

In addition to the dead members, there are many who are no longer active agents. The ActiveRain rosters can be very misleading.

A friend of mine from our town passed away years ago, yet I do enjoy when I come across his profile, nice to have that remnant out there in cyberland.

I know of one in my market. It feels strange that their profile is still up there but there are no posts because they were in an old system I think. When you go to their profile there's only a little info there, no posts, but their points remain.

I like Mary's answer....and i still have people on my roster who have passed away, and i just reblogged one member's post recently in memory!

Wow, Bob... that's some question! I must admit I never gave this subject a single thought, but now that you've raised it, I would say I tend to agree with you.

Good question, Bob. I stopped by to read and see what others had to say.

Bob Ratliff, Broker Associate - REALTOR® 512-587-5689 this is a very sensitive issue. I do love what they have written - so if they are around with their creativity still alive - I am fine. (Though at times, I am not even aware of that fact.)

I think the blog should remain on-line as a testament to hir or her memory.

I like your thinking Debbie Reynolds and Sybil Campbell maybe AR will read your comments and implement a new strategy for deceased members.

Now that is a good one. Maybe there should be another status. It could be misleading to the public to try to reach that person or if the profile says he is a Realtor or have designations that would be a violation of NAR rules. It could be a violation of state statutes if it saying they are still a real estate agent. Maybe AR should look into this future.

I still have them in my "following" circle. I'm sad that they're gone but their quality of blogging remains. Sadly, there have been too many pass through these doors when AR was a fledgling site. Much more comradery and laughter back then without the concern of points, or at least that I can remember.
