Steven,
I deal with questions like this everyday. The answer is how will those who are looking at it react. Like Gabe Sanders mentioned I find it hard to read white on black except when the font is really legible and clean. It also depends on your marketplace, black is formal! Is that the nature of where you work? A

I looked at your Spotlight posts and agree with the others: black text on a white background is far superior for readability.

Thank you Gabe - I appreciate another set of trained eyes on it. The first one was a white field, I'll be sure & do the next that way, as well. Small world - I very recently moved back up to Bucks Co., PA from the Stuart area...

Steven A. Walny lighter backgrounds is what I prefer - just my opinion.

The area here has a bucolic, elegant, casual feel, Tux w/o the tie perhaps in some cases, if that helps - and I appreciate everyone's insights!
Annette - I'm not sure what you mean by "really fix that URL" - is something not posting correctly? Any clarification would be helpful, Thanks

The color contrast is the least of your worries. It is not properly readable.
When you do select the right font and trim the number of words, and really fix that URL, you will find light background best UNLESS what you are selling can be graphically conveyed. Do you think I might be in the business of selling beach sunset real estate?
Now, if you want to convey you are on the leading edge of contempory, work with Marsala. White was pushed in with the new age movement and may be headed for sunset much like stainless steel. Marsala is the color of 2015 and 2016.
At this time, and as GOOGLE recognizes....white space has great value.
