Kris Neese I've been seeing strings of questions (often 10 or more). It seems that many are doing this to just gain points, and they aren't real questions.  And, it's flooding out the real questions.  I have to scroll several pages to find them.

All - What do you think the limits should be?  I'm thinking that at the most, points for 5 q's a day...or maybe max of 10 per week.

I have submitted all of your feedback to the development team for consideration - I agree that there should be limits so that there isn't any abuse in the points area. This will also hopefully help ease finger-pointing on points abuse as well.

David Saks There are MANY people posting many meaningless questions here.  It's a mess.  What I'm suggesting is that there are daily limits.

Also, BTW, my first comment here was both to add to the question (because there is a limit to characters) and to notify Kris that the board has become a mess over the weekend.  Yes, I did get an extra 25 pts for that.

Personally, I think there needs to be limits on questions (maybe 2 per day/10 per week) as well as points for answers (maybe 10 per day). There also should be limits on points for liking q's/comments and there should not be points for liking your own q's or answers.  I'm not sure if you get that or not (although you would know).

There probably should be limits on Q&A just like there are with responding to posts. It's so much easier to ask and answer questions than it is to put together a blog post. Sometimes I wish blog post points were weighted based on length because I've seen some really short blog posts.

Actually, David, you are a perfect example of someone who is cluttering up the board w/ lots of questions just to get points.  Your questions could easily be combined and many are geared to customers who don't even have access to the forum.

It doesn't seem like you are getting much engagement from your questions.

Also, not sure what you are insinuating in comment #3.  No, I did not like my own question.  But, now my question, along w/ many other people's questions are getting pushed down the board as you clutter it up.  You did the same thing yesterday as well.

Oh and yes, you and other are welcome to overtake my score.  I don't max out my daily or weekly scores, so it's not hard to do if points are your primary goal.

@Debbie, glad AR put some limits on the number of questions, and I think it should be even ONE per day.   The chance of gaming the system for points will be less.   I agree that this Q & A section should be NO POINTS, just for a true area to find quick questions.

Though I have been quiet on AR recently this just seems to be another opportunity for anyone who wants to slam a few hundred or thousands points a week onto their score to abuse.  I agree when I scroll through the questions I don't get what they are supposed to be asking or who they are geared towards.  Those who will abuse the system will continue to do so and protest that they aren't doing anything wrong.

Debbie, your dodging the issue with indirect references and smokescreen.

In your first original reply, #1, you post to a rainer who didn't comment on this post, and you suggest that the questions are not real questions .

You net 25 points.

Probably alluding to me because of the volume of inquiry.

You amateurishly suggest that "It doesn't seem like you are getting much engagement from your questions."

I wasn't aware that you were trolling my blog entries.

I share plenty with many.

Many of my q & a are directed to other aspects of the industry, i.e., staging, home inspection, appraisal, loan brokerage, etc.

No inquiries about flooring, though that could change.

There's enough toady and lackey convenience on the front page without bringing it here.

I'm not interested in your score, overtaking it or playing a game with you, ever.

Grab some pick up sticks and tiddly winks and have fun with someone else if you think this is a game.

Maybe ActiveRain's not for you.

The only thing cluttered up at this stage is your logic.

Can you provide some clear examples of questions that you believe aren't real questions in the q&a section of ActiveRain ?

What specifically about those questions demonstrate that they're not "real questions", as you've stated ?

What is your conception of a real question ?

What would you suggest demonstrates relevance in this forum ?

Are you concerned that this section will become an opportunity for some to advance and overtake your score ?

Your response would really be helpful and might justify your concerns leading to an amicable, well-meant solution for all.

Best wishes.

Test...this is weird, I think they may have already made some changes.  I just got 10 pts...it said for "answering someone's queston."  But, I don't remember doing that just now, so maybe they meant for responding to an answer on your own question.  Let's see.

Edit:  yes, that what's it's for. That's better vs. getting 25 pts on your own question.  I have no idea if this is retroactive or not.  I'm guessing not.

Yes, RVA HomePRO Michael Hottman they really need to add some limits, esp on asking questions, but also probably on answering.  And, yes, I agree it's way easier to ask a q on here vs. write a blog post.  And, if it's a good q, you continue to get more points as others answer.  Hopefully, they'll address this soon.

Debbie Gartner - I would like to see a section where the members ask questions with answers from the staff. There are too many unknowns and too much uncertainty.

I fear that the points system intimidates newer members. It is difficult for a new member to imagine reaching two million points.

Debbie Laity no, they still haven't done limits, but they greatly reduced the points.  It was 100 for asking a question, and now it's only 10; it was 25 for answering and now only 10.  It's more under control now.

Joan Cox I do think they need limits - maybe 1-2 q's per day/max 10/week.  I think giving a small amt of points is good to get some activity, but not the way it was.

Jon Kolsky I respect your opinion, but I respectively disagree.  If you saw what was going on this weekend, it was out of control w/ tons of clutter - many asking 20 or more q's a day, and a few over 40.  It was very challenging to find/answer the questions for those asking more better q's and being more choiceful in their thoughts.

My point here is that there should be some caps on the points to help moderate those that may overuse.  I think it's good to have some points, but the amounts they had (and wo/ limits) was leading to overuse, esp on the question side.  Since they've made the change on points, it has already helped.

Roy Kelley theoretically, this is a place where the members can ask the staff questions and they can answer.  However, currently, the tagging feature on this section is not working.  I believ Kris Neese knows this and I think they are planning to fix this (hopefully on next update).

I actually think the Q&A section is perfect for newcomers here. and, I think it's a way that they can gain some points.  For newcomers, the goal really should be to get free membership (not to get to 2 million points).
