I do a mental recap of the highlights of the day kind of laying out the day in my head. For instance I would know I have a listing appointment in the afternoon and a lunch date with a business associate. That would clue me in to be able to fill in around these most important tasks as the day generates activity.

A morning routine and/or ritual makes all the diffrence. For me personally, I struggled with this for a long time and even fought against it as I was never the type to enjoy rigorous schedules and such. However, after much trial and error as well as struggle I have created a morning routine for myself that works for me. I think the key is having a consistent routine that creates some structure and discipline to start your day, and exercise of some sort should be included in that routine to get the endorphins flowing. From there you start each day with a sense of accomplishment that will naturally carry over into the rest of your day.

I see a running theme here. One woman said that on her successful days she has a plan and it seems to me that the theme here is that a plan will help make you successful. i try and read something positive, then work out and clear my head and then face the day. Sometimes checking and cleaning out email before I leave is helpful and sometimes it is a distraction so i struggle with that.

On my most successful days, I make a list and stick to it, crossing off each accomplishment as I go. On days that I don't make a list, I find that I'm not quite so successful. (I also make a point to do all the hard things or things that I don't feel like doing first, so I can get them out of the way and get on with the fun stuff.)

Habit 1: Start tomorrow today

At the end of each day review your phone calls, emails and personal contacts and make a list of tomorrow’s marketing activities. Get a piece of paper and add four headings or more:

  1. Phone calls to make.
  2. Emails to respond to.
  3. Emails to write.
  4. People to visit.
  • Is tomorrow the birthday of a client or the anniversary of when they moved into their home?
  • Is it time for a three-, six-, or nine-month check-n with a buyer?
  • Is there a new listing that a client might be interested in?
  • Did something happen in the market today you should update your buyers and sellers on?

You certainly need the right "frame of reference."  I'm an early riser - about 6:00 am every day.  I enjoy reading, maybe watching the weather report and some news, entering information in my journal, and jotting down how I would like the day to run.  Now it never runs like I plan it ... but planning it helps it to run as satisfactory as possible.  A positive mental attitude is your best frame of reference.

The short answer to your question is you have to take time for yourself in the morning.  As real estate professionals we are constantly in service of others. The early hours of the morning are the best time to take time for yourself and cater to you.  You can do that in many ways... Prayer, meditation, exercise etc.  I personally like to watch positive inspirational videos and audios that train my subconscious mind and put me on a positive note that tends to resonate throughout my entire day.  Try it... BE BLESSED.

My morning actually starts about 20 minutes before I go to bed.  I check my calendar for the next day so I can mentally prepare for the property time needed to meet those appointments.  Then when I wake up I spend about 10 minutes just being happy to see the morning, followed by a little morning conversation with my husband and then checking email to see if anything needs to be done prior to my first appointment.

Oh, I also pet the cat, feed her  and drink a lot of coffee!

You write the blog inside the shower so it flows out in the hunt and peck when you sit down at the keyboard. You get emails done before the phones start ringing, check answering machine, get back to those calls pronto. Before office visit walk ins show up. You are flexible so what you had planned can all be subject to change or gets rearranged in your day. You work hard, are not lazy and are a problem solver, not people judger. Attack those issues, not personalities and navigate from the listing to closing (repeat).  You remind yourself daily your profit is in your expenses and real estate is a business first. The principles apply that will make your successful or looking for another career.
