About Shawn Perkins

Making a Difference One Client at a Time

So Who Is This Your Favorite Lender Guy?

I've been self-employed most of my working life. Getting into the mortgage business didn't come as an academic calling, but as a strategy for getting myself out of debt. Over the past 15+ years I've had many great success stories and what started out as a way to make extra money turned into a passion for helping others.

When I started doing mortgages over 15 years ago I was an order taker. I simply gave people what they called in and asked for without offering any guidance whatsoever. I really had no clue what I was doing, which just goes to show you how simple it was, and still is, to get a license to do mortgages. One day I was the owner of my own carpet cleaning company and a stocker at Price Club and the next day I was a loan officer. In fact, under current law, loan officers that work for a bank of credit union are not even required to have a license, which means they haven't had to prove even the most basic understanding of finances or mortgages.

Not one to be satisfied with mediocrity,

I began my journey of increasing financial literacy.

From the first day I went into business as a mortgage professional my primary focus has been creating value for my clients. The value that I create for my clients has evolved and increased in magnitude over the years as I have grown in my own understanding and grasp of financial matters. I have transformed my business from that of a traditional loan officer to that of a professional mortgage strategist and financial educator. I have earned highly coveted mortgage industry designations such as CMPS (Certified Mortgage Planning Specialist), CMP (Certified Mortgage Planner), CMA (Certified Mortgage Advisor), and CLA (Certified Liability Advisor).

I have been and continue to be involved in a variety of business coaching and business development programs. I credit much of my success to the people I surround myself with: be it supportive family, close friends, industry icons that have befriended me or my many dedicated clients. I embrace a Japanese business philosophy called kaizen, which means continuous and incremental improvement. I believe this philosophy is as critical in my personal life as it is for my business. I am a voracious reader, whether it's learning how to be a better person, husband, father, boss, or businessman. I am committed to learning how to transcend my limiting beliefs about what is possible in all areas of my life. I've discovered that the only thing that holds up my success is what I believe I cannot do.

I like to share my knowledge

and I make it a practice to give away whatever I can.

I am a charter faculty member of The National Institute of Financial Education, an organization which seeks out exceptional leaders, educators, and professionals to donate their time to educate consumers throughout the United States via live online classes, recorded web classes, and live local events. Faculty members share their knowledge and experience with consumers in three key areas: Real Estate, Investing, and Borrowing. I am a certified trainer and teach continuing education classes to real estate agents, financial planners, and CPAs.

I am committed to delivering world-class service to my clients. I take great pride in operating a referral-based practice. I consider myself very fortunate to have clients who understand the value I create and consistently return to me for their financing needs. Those same clients actively refer their family, friends, and work associates.
