Get to Know Tiger Myers

I'm a 26-year Air Force veteran. In retrospect my career was really an accident rather than a plan. I used to go by the recruiter's station every day on my way to work and one day I happened in. Next thing I knew I was taking the oath of office and headed to basic training.

I started out as an aircraft mechanic, got a degree or two and received my commission as an aircraft maintenance officer six years after enlisting. Later on I earned my MS in Logistics Management at the Air Force Institute of Technology so I guess I kind of liked it. I do remember walking across my base in New Mexico, just weeks shy of retirement, thinking "What am I going to do that will challenge me every day?" Well, that question went on hold as I deployed to Qatar following 911. It was an interesting 6-months and I'll never forget the wonderful people I served with there and throughout my career.

So what to do with my family while I was gone? Settle them in southern Wisconsin, of course. Definitely not my first choice; I always saw myself in the West climbing mountains and all, but I also wanted my daughter to know her extended family. So there we were and I'm so thankful for that choice. I used to tell my troops I was going to retire in a place where they not only know you bought your underwear at Walmart but what color they are too. I wanted my daughter to be safe, to feel connected, and to have a real sense of community. We've found that in Monticello.

But time was on my side and after almost 10 years we have relocated to the West Valley of Phoenix in Surprise Arizona! This is a big city with a small town feeling. We love the blue sky, the heat, the pool and the wonderful people we've met thus far.

As for the challenging second career; well that's been real estate. I've always had an affinity for houses; the construction, the psychology of why we consider our homes so important, how we decorate them, and what they say about us. I love the autonomy, the ever-changing days, the ups and downs but mostly the people I serve.

I am excited to be working with RE/MAX Professionals. What a great group of folks to be affiliated with. Surperb training & education and lots of positive energy. Please let me know how I may help you with all your real estate needs.

Certifications

In 2002 I sat in front of my computer 8-hours a day and studied. In early 2003 I took my license test and became a real estate agent. In the past 5 years I've learned a lot about real estate and even more about people.

I completed my Certified Residential Specialist certfication. It is the highest designation awarded to sales associates in the residential real estate field. CRS® designation recognizes professional accomplishments in both education and experience. Mostly I just liked going to school. I'm not the best student in the world but I do enjoy learning.

Next came earning my Graduate of the REALTOR® Institute or GRI for short. incorporates a common body of knowledge for progressive real estate professionals. A REALTOR® who possesses the GRI designation has not only completed a course of study required by the program, but also subscribes to the Code of Ethics of the NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS®. Lots of words meaning we learn even more about how to best serve our customers and clients and we keep up on the latest.

In 2007 I decided I wanted to know more about the business end of real estate management so I upgraded my sales license to a Broker's license. More test anxiety, but then what the heck I'm 50 and really don't care!

Next I earned a designation as a Senior Residential Specialist, SRES®. This course looks at key differences in housing options, from age-restricted communities to age-in-place design to assisted living; applications of the Housing for Older Persons Act (HOPA); the ins and outs of reverse mortgages; the use of pensions, 401k accounts, and IRAs in real estate transactions; and developing a team of senior specialists, including estate planners, reverse mortgage lenders, clutter and staging specialists, and more. Wow! It was really helpful to me.

In June 2009 I did the Certified Distressed Property Expert course. I had already managed a number of short-sale, pre-foreclosure and foreclosure properties so this seemed to be a logical step. I have some great tools in this new toolbox. With two other agents in the office, we have formed a team to assist homeowners facing foreclosure. Check us out at our new website.

In August 2011 I completed my licensing requirements here in Arizona. I am excited to bring my 10 years of experience into this new market!
