I am Paul Duffau, the owner and inspector for Safe@Home Inspections, LLC in SE Washington State and Central Idaho. Unlike many inspectors, I didn't get into the business accidentally or as a second or third career. I chose to become International Code Council certified Special Inspector specializing in structural systems. In other words, I'm a concrete nerd. I have taken and passed six of the ICC exams - which are noted for being very difficult. They are (in the order that I passed them): Reinforced Structural Concrete, Structural Masonry, Pre-Stressed Structural Concrete, Spray-applied Fire Resistant Foam, Structural Steel and High Strength Bolting and, finally, Residential Building Inspector.
Then I moved from California (and yes, I miss the weather but not the traffic or smog) to Idaho and discovered that they had substantially different ideas regarding the building codes. I love inspecting. I love houses. I love helping people. I decided to combine all of that into one profession as a home inspector and, with no marketing background, decided to buy a franchise.
I am a Licensed Home Inspector (WA Lic#215) in the State of Washington - it's required but sometimes ignored in this wayward little corner of Washington State.
I also am a certified Infrared Thermographer and a former Energy Rater for the State of Idaho.
On the personal side, I run, I'm a dad (three girls), I read incessantly and I tell bad jokes. My wife keeps me around because I can reach the top shelf and I'm a great cook.
I am expert on all forms of residential building inspection, provide expert witmess testimony in construction defect suits and foresic inspections of failed systems. I can also provide code-specific oversight on new construction.
On commercial inspections, I perform to ASTM E2018 standards in evaluating property. I have in the past inspected apartment buldings, office buildings, warehouses, restautants and motels.
I have (or had - some certifications I did not renew):
6 International Code Council Certifications, 4 WAQTC certifications, 1 ACI certification, ASHI Certification, NACHI Certification, RESnet Certification/Energy Rater with the State of Idaho, Structural Pest Inspector for State of Washington, Certified Thermographer. More will be coming this year.
I am an expert Property Inspector, a Code-certified Inspector, and a State Licensed Inspector (WA Lic#215.) I am also a member of the Home Inspector Advisory Board and the State Building Code Council
