Get to Know Lucy E. Thompson

I started my career in real estate in the U.K. and went back into the real estate profession in early 2000 in the U.S., after finishing an undergraduate degree in Business Administration (Marketing) at The College of Saint Elizabeth in Convent Station, NJ and spending several years in relocation (orientation and settling in services) for international transferees relocating to New Jersey.  I went on to take the New Jersey real estate broker course and earned the designation approximately 10 years ago, primarily to give my clients the benefit of more in-depth experience and expertise. I also took the GRI (Graduate of the Realtor Institute) and the ABR (Accredited Buyer Representative) designations, again to provide sellers and buyers with a much higher level of service.  I believe in absolute integrity and honesty between me and my clients and I will never ask sellers or buyers to do anything that I would not be comfortable doing myself, such as a necessary maintenance item prior to listing their house or an inspection like an oil tank sweep for example.  My goal is to lessen the stress and burden of buying and selling residential real estate and to give sellers and buyers a high comfort level and absolute confidence that I am exactly the right real estate broker-sales professional to help them with their needs and achieve their goals.  I have personally bought and sold many homes, both in the U.S. and the U.K., so I can identify closely with how my clients might feel and I am extremely motivated, enthusiastic and energetic when working with sellers, investors and buyers.  I will leave no stone unturned and I take my fiduciary responsibilities very seriously.  In 2013 I helped my sellers close at an average of 98% of their original list price - these statistics outperform the general market and are a result of careful pricing, combined with the best staging and presentation - essential in this transitioning environment in 2014 where it is the tale of two markets - the one below about $1,000,000 (multiple bids in profusion) and the one above about $1,000,000 (a "price war and a beauty contest" for the majority of homes.)

Certifications

My office and center of influence is based in Summit, NJ and I work in about 30 of the surrounding towns in Union, Morris, Essex, eastern Somerset and eastern Hunterdon Counties - these towns include Summit, New Providence, Berkeley Heights, Mountainside, Watchung, Warren, Bernards Township, Long Hill Township, Harding, Morristown, Morris Township, Morris Plains, Madison, Florham Park, Chatham Township, Chatham Borough, Livingston, Short Hills, Millburn, Maplewood, South Orange Village, West Orange, Springfield, Union, Clark, Cranford, Westfield, Scotch Plains, Garwood, Fanwood etc. These towns vary in many ways - some are very suburban while others have a rural or semi-rural feel to them. I strongly believe that New Jersey is one of America's best kept secrets with something to suit every buyer or potential home owner! I specialize in all types of residential home selling and buying services, from first time purchases and first time sales to empty nest sales, sellers moving down market and beyond. I work with many people who are both American and foreign nationals and/or who are relocating, either within the U.S. or to/from overseas and my clients often just leave me with the keys to their homes and instructions to go ahead and handle everything in their absence. 18 years ago I co-wrote a handbook called "Moving To And Living In New Jersey" with a friend of mine, Charlotte Drinkwater. We based it on our collective experiences of moving to New Jersey without the benefit of expert help and it was warmly received and used by numerous transferees, companies and human resource managers over the years. I have taken much from that experience to make sure that I really assist people who might feel overwhelmed by what they are facing when contemplating a move and I am passionate about providing sellers and buyers with helpful information that they can use to make really informed decisions to suit their individual housing needs. The majority of my business comes from personal referrals and I am never too busy to welcome a new client.
